Additional scholarships available in the Career Center are:
-WI Cattlemen’s & Cattlewomen’s scholarship- Ten $500 scholarships available. Applicant may attend any university or technical school in the U.S. or enter UW-Madison’s Ag. Short Course Program.

-Scholarship Inc. – Applicant may attend either a 4-year or technical college. Numerous awards based on academic excellence, extra curricular activities, and community leadership. Many scholarships also consider financial need.

Boys Basketball
Boys JV basketball practice will be at 5:30 instead of after school.

Cheerleaders
Reminder to all cheerleaders that the parent meeting is tonight at 6:00 and practice will follow at 6:30 until 9:00 p.m.

Book Club
Great news…we have decided to move the book club discussion to Thursday, January 22nd so that more of you have the opportunity to read the book “Twisted”. So, change your calendar and meet us for lunch in the LMC on Thursday, Jan. 22nd instead of the 8th.

Chess Club
The Hornet Chess Club will meet tomorrow from 3:00 until 4:00 in room 117.

Attention all FCCLA members:
We will hold an important meeting on Tuesday, January 6th. There will be two meetings- one before school and one after school. Both will meet in room 137. You must attend this meeting to get the necessary forms and paperwork for the regional competition. Hope to see you there.

The girls varsity basketball team will be practicing after school today in the old gym.

The fighting in Gaza, problems with new appointments in the Obama administration, and possible new tax cuts will all be discussed at the Political Awarenss Club meeting on Wednesday right after school in Room 105. See you there.

Aurora BayCare Medical Center will host a Health Career Exploration Day on Thursday, January 22, 2009. Preble Winter Running Club
Many thanks to all individuals who have participated in the Preble Winter Running Club. We have had anywhere between 20 to 25 runners a day running either inside or out. Please remember, all students are welcome to join after the winter break. We gather every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 3:15 outside of the PE lockerrooms. Bring your running shoes and a friend to run off those extra pounds gained over the break! Make optimal fitness your New Years resolution and join the 2009 Preble Winter Running Club!

FCA
Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host its FCA Christmas Party on Sunday, December 28. The fun begins at 3:30 at the Griswold residence. Come join the fun! Planned activities are Boot Hockey, Sledding and Food.

Girls Basketball
The varsity girls basketball team traveled to De Pere on Saturday. They played a hard fought game vs. the number 3 team in the state losing by only 10 points 49-59. It was a close game most of the way. Great job girls. Your effort was outstanding.

The jv and frehmen teams also lost their game but their showed improvement. Keep up the hard work.
The girls basketball team travels to Manitowoc on Tuesday. JV and freshmen plays at 6:00 with the varsity playing at 7:30.

Wrestling
Last Thursday the wrestling team was edged in a hard fought dual meet at Pulaski 33-22. There were three very close matches which we were not able to pull out. Winning by pin were Nathan Swiecichowski and Steve VandenAvond. Winning by decision were Luis Perez, Mark VandenAvond, and Matt Pennings. Our conference record stands at 3-1.

The team rebounded by winning the championship of our own tournament this weekend. The team went 5-0, defeating Winneconne 63-12, Chilton 59-10, Lakeside Lutheran 46-25, Markesan 69-9, and Wabeno 46-22. Going undefeated on the day were Deavon Krings, Marshall Pennings, Luis Perez, Nate Swiecichowski, Matt Pennings, Steve VandenAvond, and Pat DeWane. Other wrestlers with winning records were Pedro Hernandez, Spencer Tielens, and Shane Krueger.

The Varsity Reserve team also competed in the tournament due to a cancellation and the team went 1-4 putting a scare into a few varsity teams. Wrestlers with winning records were Zach Dagneau, Jason Romitti, Alex Cooney, Mark VandenAvond and Tyler Umentum.

Boys Basketball game is canceled for tonight. Practice will be held after school. The boys games are re-scheduled for tomorrow night, Saturday, December 20th at Sheboygan South. Game times are JV/Freshmen 6:00 p.m. and Varsity 7:30 pm.

Girls Basketball
The girls basketball game vs. Sheboygan South tonight is cancelled. There will be practice tonight at 5:30. A make up date has not been announced as of yet.

Men's Swim Team
Tuesday, December 16th, the Green Bay United Swim Team swam against Sturgeon Bay and Bayport at Bayport. The GBU Swimmers swam a great meet and had 15 different swimmers swim their fastest times of the season. Great work guys!

The Girls played last night at west. The varsity won 48-29 with a great effort. Great job girls.

The jv won 34-22 and showed good improvement

Applicant should have demonstrated leadership abilities through participating in community services, extra curricular or other activities. GPA of 2.5/better, essay, and two letters of recommendation required. 45% of recipients will be chosen based on need.

Wrestling
Green Bay Preble-East wrestlers improved to 3-0 in conference Thursday night by defeating Bay Port 36-22.

Winning by pin for Preble were Shane Krueger, Pedro Hernandez, Deavon Krings and Spencer Tielens. Winning by decision were Matt Pennings, Mark VandenAvond, Marshall Pennings and Steve VandenAvond. Spcial thanks to Steve who wrestled up a weight to knock off one of BayPort's best wrestler. The Varsity will be in action this Saturday at the Battle on the Bay at Bay Port High School.

Winning on JV were Paul VandenElzen, Matt Buettner, Ryan Wessel, Luis Alavez, Chris Adams, and Tyler Hansen. The JV will be in action at Kimberly this weekend.

Over the weekend the Varsity and JV wrestlers were in action. The varsity was at the very tough Battle on the Bay tournament. The team took 11th overall out of 16 teams and top place-winners were Luis Perez who took third, Matt Pennings took fourth, Nathan Swiecichowski took 6th and Marshall Pennings and Pedro Hernandez took 8th.

The JV wrestlers wrestled at the Kimberly Invitational and placing first with records of 3-0 wereAlex Cooney, Tonto Christensen, Jesse Leuthoudom, Jimmy Spears, and Tyler Umentum.
Taking second with records of 2-1 were Jeremy Pigg, Matt Buettner, Aaron Werchek, Ryan Wessel, and Ned Nicholson. Overall for the day, the JV had 32 wins and 26 losses.

Girls Tennis
There will be a meeting for all members of the girls tennis team and all prospective members of the boys tennis team after school on Thursday, December 18 in Room 245. Please see Mrs. Weuve if you cannot attend.

Men's Swim Team
This past Saturday the Green Bay United Men's Swim Team competed at the Hodag Relays Meet in Rhinelander Wisconsin. Behind the strong swimming of Captains Brock McMorran and Quinn Englebert, and a First Place relay of Mike Kiem, Chad Westenberg, and C.J. Galloway GBU placed 6th out of 9. Great Job Green Bay Swimmers!

ASVAB
This announcement is for students who took the Armed Services Military Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) on November 6th.

Mike Varney, from the Armed Services Testing Center, will be at Preble on Monday, December 15th, 1st hour, in the Student Services Conference Room, to interpret the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery or ASVAB. This will be the only interpretation given at Preble.

Yearbook
The yearbook staff will be meeting Thursday after school in Room 203 to work on senior photos. If you have NOT yet submitted your senior photo, there is still time but you will need to submit one as soon as possible if you wish to be included alphabetically in the senior section. We are not finished logging in all senior photos but when we are, we will announce information about how and where to find out if your photo was received.

Knitting Club
The Knitting Club will be meeting after school today and Friday in Room 205. If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet, come join us. We have just donated 40 hats, 56 headbands, 10 scarves and 8 pairs of mittens to students in need of warm outdoor clothing at Danz Elementary. THANK YOU to everyone who contributed. You can still earn up to 18 service learning hours for knitting caps or mittens and donating them. Mrs. Sutton also will present information on another exciting charity opportunity—to knit or crochet bears to send to African children who have been affected by AIDS. Panier du Marche’ Cuisine Scholarship
On Saturday at the Le Cordon Bleu College in Minneapolis, the Panier du Marche’ Cuisine Scholarship competition was held. Ten finalists from across the US competed. Preble’s very own, Julie Mottl placed second in this mystery basket competition. She won a $1000 scholarship, as well as, books and a French Chef knife. Please congratulate Julie on her outstanding accomplishment.

The Preble/East JV Wrestling team was in action Saturday at the Appleton East JV tournament. The team scored well with 4 first place, 5 second place, and 6 third place wrestlers. The Preble-East wrestling team started the season with a bang yesterday by defeating Green Bay West/Southwest 66-12. Winning by pin for the team were Christian Tointon, Deavon Krings, Mike Huempfner, Marshall Pennings, Shane Krueger and Patrick Dewane. Steve VandenAvond won by tech fall with Nathan Swiecichowski winning by major decision. Other winners on the night were Matt Pennings, who won a tough battle over one of West’s best wrestlers, and Pedro Hernandez and Luis Perez. Great job guys!

Senior Photos
Yesterday was the official deadline for senior color photos for the 2009 yearbook. You should still turn in your photos to Mrs. Sutton in Room 205 or to the Main Office even if you have missed that deadline. Every effort will be made to place your photo in the senior color section in alphabetical order. If you turn your photo in after we have physically placed the photos in alphabetical order, your photo will be placed at the end of the senior section out of alphabetical order. However, once the senior page proofs have been approved, we would have to place your photo in another part of the yearbook, not with your class, if you turn it in too late. It is very important that you get your photo to Mrs. Sutton immediately so that you won’t be left out.

A list of names of those students whose photos we HAVE received will be posted by the end of this week outside of room 205, by the auditorium box office, and on the student drive. Listen for an announcement when we have completed our organization of all the names on the list. It is YOUR responsibility to check the list and report to Mrs. Sutton if you notice that your name isn’t on the list but your photo should have been turned in. You also need to contact your photographer immediately as well. Many photographers send photos as e-mail attachments which may not have even been received and we would have no way of knowing it. It is more important than ever that you check to see if your photo was received. You may also check on your photo’s status with Mrs. Sutton in Room 205 before or after school.

The Running Club participants share common goals such as staying in shape for a spring sport or raising their overall fitness level. Do Something
With the hard economic times, there is one group affected we often do not think about.
They are there to support us during our hard times, but they are one of the first things given up when a family is struggling. The Do Something Club is focusing our winter project on help our little furry friends at the Humane Society. Donations are down and the numbers of pets people are giving up are on the rise.

Interested in Joining the Green Bay United Men's Swim team? Its not too late. Practices are after school at 3:45 at Edison. If you are interested stop by.

Preble Running Club
Is the YMCA too busy? Are you tired of battling people for running space to stay in shape over the winter months? Then joining the 2008 Preble Running Club is a great idea. The Running Club participants share common goals such as staying in shape for a spring sport or raising their overall fitness level. The Preble Running Club starts Monday, December 3rd at 3:15 PM and will meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday immediately after school around the PE locker room area. Runners will always have the option of running inside the school or outside in the Preble neighborhood. Bring a friend and lace up your shoes on your way to looking and feeling better. The Buzz
The latest issue of the Buzz is here. Please send a runner to the commons at this time to pick up copies for the classroom.

The planning session for the next buzz issue will be on Monday Nov. 24 in room 132 after school. Please plan on being there. We will also be discussing new shirts for the staff.

Yearbook
The yearbook work session for after school today has been cancelled. There will be a work session tomorrow after school in Room 203. All are welcome.

Knitting Club
The Knitting Club meeting for Wednesday after school has been cancelled for this week.

Senior Photos
This is a final reminder to seniors that senior color yearbook photos are due next Monday, December 1. Photos received after that date may not be included in alphabetical order in the senior section; however, we will do our best to put them in the senior section at the end out of alphabetical order. Once those pages are submitted for printing any late senior photos would have to be put in a different section of the book. Please see Mrs. Sutton in Room 205 if you have questions or need help.

Students and Staff!
Make a difference in someone’s life by being a blood donor. Next Monday, December 1st, will mark our first Red Cross blood drive. Students who are 16 can donate with a parent permission form. Students 17 or older may just sign up to be a donor. We are making those two types of forms available NOW in the Commons. Teachers- at this time, please count the numbers of students who would like a blood donor form, those who are 16 need a different form, and send a runner to the Commons with BOTH numbers to pick up donor forms. Students—please return these forms either to your teacher or to the Main Office to be scheduled.

United Colors of Preble
The United Colors is now taking applications for student members. Forms are available in the Main Office.

Preble’s Night at the Movies
Today is the last day to buy your tickets to attend Preble’s Night at the Movies at the new Marcus Theatre! Whether you’re a movie fanatic or are just itching to see the new movies coming out this holiday season, plan to buy your ticket today during lunch! The movies playing will be Madagascar 2, High School Musical 3, Bolt, Quantam of Solace, and Twilight. All Preble students are invited to this night of fun, so bring all of your friends to the new Marcus theatre! Tickets will be $6, which includes a free popcorn, if you buy it today at school, but you will pay full price if you wait to buy your tickets at the theatre. So don’t delay! See you tonight!

Red Cross Bloodmobile
December 1 marks a day that can change your life and the lives of others you don’t even know. It marks the date of the first Red Cross Bloodmobile of the year at Preble. Students who weigh at least 110 pounds and are 16 years old are eligible to donate blood. 16-year olds must have a completed parent permission to donate. Beginning today in the main office and all next week donor forms will be available there and in the Commons during lunch hours. Appointments must be made to ensure the blood drive moves along smoothly, so don’t forget to sign up now!

A reminder to all Link Crew Leaders….
Remember to pass out your recruitment sheets to encourage freshmen to come to Preble Night at the Movies!! If you need more recruitment sheets come see Mrs. Rowe in student services.

Yearbook
There will be a yearbook work session today after school in Room 203. Anyone is welcome to join the yearbook staff at any time. Your help is needed and always welcome. The yearbook, which is in all color, costs $47. Come find out how you can “work” off the cost of a new yearbook.

The senior photo deadline is December 1. See Mrs. Sutton in Room 205 immediately before or after school if you are having difficulty getting a professional photo taken and she will assist you. We want to include EVERY senior in this year’s yearbook. Become a part of your class’s history by participating.

Vox Box
Vox Box, a student writing group, will meet today after school in Room 205. All interested student writers are welcome.

The Knitting Club
The Knitting Club will meet tomorrow after school in Room 205. No Knitting Club meeting next week due to the break. Anyone may join the knitting club at any time. Come learn how to do a relaxing hobby and do something good for others. Service learning hours are available if you make and donate a hat or mittens.

Attention Art Club:
We are meeting today in Ms. Gerondale’s room. We will continue to work on our Art Club t-shirts. We will also collect all of the fundraising materials. See you there.

Attention Preble:
November is National Lung and Pancreatic Cancer Month.
Sting Cancer Lung and Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day will be on this Friday, November 21st. It will be highlighted with a once in a lifetime opportunity for staff and students. Everyone can wear a cap all day at school. There are only two conditions you must follow.

1. The cap you wear to school on Friday must be school appropriate.

2. You must pay a dollar as the goal of this day is to wear a cap for a cause. If you come to school on Friday and go to the ticket window and give a dollar to a Sting Cancer member, you will receive a sticker that you must have in order to wear your cap all day.

All of the money raised will go to a local agency known as Heavenly Hats, that supplies cancer patients with caps to wear all around the world.

A very limited amount of Nike Sting Cancer caps will be for sale, but anyone can wear a cap they bring from home and at the same time be helping a great cause.

Aside from “Caps for a Cause” Sting Cancer members will be selling T-shirts and other Sting Cancer gear in the ticket windows during the lunch hours

Environmental Club
There will be an EC meeting, environmental club, on Tonight in room 216 after school

PFM Testing Students
The last PFM Test will be in Room 147 and Room 150 tonight, Thursday, November 20 starting promptly at 3:15pm.

Please bring #2 pencils and a calculator with you to Room 147 and 150. It will take approximately 1.5 hours from 3:15 to 4:45pm.

Thursday the LMC is limited hours 3, 5, 7 and 8.

Deer Hunting
To all students going deer hunting, we need a pre-excused form filled out by your parent and all your teachers. You can pick them up in the attendance office.
