Attention sophomores:
All sophomores will attend the Career Expo at ShopKo Hall tomorrow Dec. 1st. You will load the busses at 8:20. They will be located on Danz Ave. The bus schedule is posted on the window near the Career Center. Everyone has been placed on a bus in alphabetical order. It is crucial that everyone get on their assigned bus. Please check out the schedule today so you know what bus to report to. If you have questions, stop in the Career Center to see Mrs. Bossell.

Puck drops for the JV game at 5:30 p.m. and your Gryphon Varsity takes the ice at 7:30 p.m.

Link Crew will be sponsoring a FREE fan bus leaving Preble around 6:00 and returning shortly after the game! To sign up for the fan bus stop by the ticket booth during the lunch hours. As an added bonus, all fans are encouraged to bring their skates or rent them on-site ($3.00 fee) and hit the ice with the GBU Gryphon players following the game. Winter Running Club
Are you feeling a little bloated from you’re Thanksgiving meal? Have you gained a few extra pounds this weekend while sitting on your couch? Then join the winter running club! We’ve been having great turnouts as 39 Preble students participated on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Join us every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 3:15 outside of the PE locker rooms. Hope to see you there!

NYC Trip
Interested in seeing the Phillies and Yankees battle it out in a World Series rematch and seeing a Broadway play such as Wicked or The Lion King? If so, it is not too late to sign up for the summer trip to New York City! In addition, the trip will hit most of the major New York attractions regarding shopping and sightseeing!
This trip is open to all grade levels. If interested, please see Mr. Marcelle in room 107 or Mr. Abts in room 115.

STOPP
(Students Together Opposing Peer Pressure), formerly SADD, will meet tomorrow, Dec. 1 in room 206 at 3:10. Everyone is welcome.



VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Anne Sullivan will hold their annual “Holiday Shop” this Saturday, Dec. 5 from 8:30 – noon. Duties consist of assisting elementary children stay within their budget while choosing Christmas presents for their families.

The Green Bay West Lions Club is once again in need of volunteers to hand out materials Verizon Gate three hours before the start of the Packer home game next Monday evening. If interested in either one of these opportunities, sign up in the Career Center.

“Keepin’ It Warm”The winter season is upon us! The TAPP class at Preble is running a “Keepin’ It Warm” drive to help out individuals in our own community. If you have any hats, mittens, scarves, blankets, gently used coats, or any other warm item, please consider donating it to this great cause. Drop off boxes are located in the main office, student services, the LMC, and room 137. All items collected will be donated to Freedom House on December 8th. Thanks for helping out !

MAC Scholars

Yearbook
This is a reminder that senior color photos for the yearbook are due by December 1. We cannot guarantee that photos received after this date will appear in alphabetical order in the senior color section.

Order forms for yearbooks will be mailed directly to students’ home addresses in early December. This is different from past years. Look for yours to arrive soon in the mail.

Knitting Club and Vox Box
There will be no meetings of the Knitting Club and Vox Box tomorrow after school because of the long holiday weekend. There will be meetings next week.

Career Expo
All sophomores will be attending the Career Expo on December 1, Periods 2 and 3. This is a great way to gather information about careers. You will hear a presentation to tell you more about the Career Expo on November 30, Monday. Check the window outside the Career Center for you bus assignment before December 1.

If you are a student who is in a Biology class one of those periods, and you are not a sophomore, you will go to the Commons for Study Hall. You will be excused to your Period 4 class when the sophomores return to Preble.

Chess Club
The Game of Kings and Queens. It’s the ultimate game of strategy that has been around for over 1,500 years. A simulation of medieval battle that has tested mankind’s nerves and intelligence for centuries, chess is a game that can be played by absolute beginners, all the way to some of the finest thinkers in the world.

The 2009-2010 chess club season is upon us! We would like to first say thank you to Mr. Sean Ahasey for his many years of service leading this club. Mr. Kline hopes to continue the fine tradition of Green Bay Preble Chess and looks forward to meeting this year’s club members.

Just a reminder about the Sting Cancer Band Aid Drive tomorrow: Stop by the commons ticket booth between 6:50-7:25 tomorrow morning with a box of colorful or cartoon Band Aids or a $2 donation and be able to wear a hat during the school day tomorrow. Remember all other school expectations still to apply regarding school-appropriate dress).

With a simple donation of colorful band-aids or $2.00 you can wear a hat in school tomorrow and make a sick child smile.

Is the new YMCA too busy? Are you tired of battling people for running space to stay in shape over the winter months? Then joining the 2009 Preble Running Club is a great idea. The Running Club participants share common goals such as staying in shape for a spring sport or raising their overall fitness level. The Preble Running Club starts Monday, November 23rd at 3:15 PM and will meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday immediately after school around the PE locker room area. Runners will always have the option of running inside the school or outside in the Preble neighborhood. Bring a friend and lace up your shoes on your way to looking and feeling better. The Ice Bears
The Ice Bears (Girls Hockey Team) has their Inaugural WIAA game this Friday at the Cornerstone @ 7 PM. The team doesn't have that many home game so if you are able to make it please come out Friday at 7:00 at Cornerstone.

The Ice Bears
The Girls Hockey Team has their Inaugural WIAA game this Friday at the Cornerstone @ 7 PM. The team doesn't have that many home game so if you are able to make it please come out Friday at 7:00 at Cornerstone.

Today is National Smoke Out Day!
If you smoke - think about quitting for just today. Perhaps you’ll see that you can quit permanently and get your health back. Think about the terrible effects that cigarette or cigar or chewing tobacco can have on our bodies. Think about the people fighting for their lives as they undergo treatment for lung cancer or emphysema. Just take the time to think about it today - and this month, which is Lung Cancer Awareness Month.

The Preble Gay-Straight Alliance is sponsoring a Thanksgiving Basket for the homeless in the Green Bay area.

You can provide support for the homeless by bringing any non-perishable food items to room 106, all day today.

The deadline is today, so please assist us in providing some food so that the homeless in the Green Bay area can have a Thanksgiving meal.

The Preble GSA is having a meeting immediately after school in room 107 to complete the basket so donations can be made then as well.

Message from SC member, Gina Sutto
Every two and a half minutes someone is diagnosed with lung cancer. 1 in 13 men and 1 in 6 women will develop lung cancer in their lifetime. Tomorrow November 19th Sting cancer will have booths set up during lunch hours where you can buy things to support the fight against lung cancer. Also there will be information on lung cancer and prevention strategies. November is national lung cancer awareness month. Check out the booths during your lunch hours tomorrow and show your support‼


PAC (The Political Awareness Club)
PAC (The Political Awareness Club) will meet on Wednesday after school in Room 105. New members are always welcomed.

The Culinary Arts Club
The Culinary Arts Club will be selling fresh salsa & chips today outside the auditorium during all lunch periods until we are sold out.

GSA
The Preble Gay-Straight Alliance is sponsoring a Thanksgiving Basket for the homeless in the Green Bay area.

You can provide support for the homeless by bringing any non-perishable food items to room 106, today and tomorrow.

The deadline is tomorrow, so please assist us in providing some food so that the homeless in the Green Bay area can have a Thanksgiving meal.

The Preble GSA is having a meeting immediately after school tomorrow in room 107 to complete the basket so donations can be made then as well. Everyone is welcome.

Night at the Movies

PFM Test Out
The PFM Test will be in Room 146 and Room 150 today Tuesday, November 17 and Thursday, November 19 starting promptly at 3:15pm.

Please bring #2 pencils and a calculator with you to Room 146 and 150 on the date you signed up for the test. If you forgot the date you signed up for you can check a listing outside Mrs. Koenig’s office.

It will take approximately 1.5 hours from 3:15 to 4:45pm.

Volunteers Needed
The Green Bay West Lions Club is in need of volunteers this Sunday to assist at the gate distributing materials before the Packer game from 9:00am-noon. Please register in Career Center by this Thursday.

Yearbook
This is a reminder to seniors that senior COLOR yearbook photos are due by December 1 in order to guarantee placement in alphabetical order in the senior section of the 2010 yearbook. The specific requirements for senior photos are in the drop down under STUDENTS on the Preble web site. If any senior has financial issues preventing him or her from submitting a photo, he or she should see Mrs. Sutton in Room 205 so that arrangements can be made for a photo. We want to include every senior in the yearbook.

Anyone interested in joining the yearbook staff is welcome to come next Monday to learn how to prepare photos and design pages. It requires many hours and the efforts of many people to produce a high quality yearbook. Come find out how your donation of hours can earn you a free yearbook.

Vox Box and Knitting Club
The Vox Box and Knitting Club meetings for Wednesday after school this week have been cancelled. However, Mrs. Sutton will be available after school on Friday if you need assistance.

Do Something
Everyone is welcome at 3:10 in Room 210 for the Do something Club kickoff meeting. Bring a friend or an idea for a project to meeting and receive an entry in a raffle for i-tunes and other gift cards. If you find one of the handsome logos in the hallway, bring it along to either of the next two meetings and you will get an extra entry! There will also be cupcakes to celebrate!

Environmental Club
The Environmental club will be doing an invasive species removal Thursday, Nov 12. It will be a good experience for anyone involved with the outdoors and a great way to earn service hours for an application. Be sure to wear clothes that you can get dirty. We will meet in room 218 at 3:10 and will go until 4:30.

FCCLA
Just a reminder that there will be an FCCLA meeting today after school to finalize plans for Family Night on December 8th. Please plan on attending this meeting. Also, FCCLA will hosting a fund-raising event on Tuesday, November 17th at Happy Joe’s. FCCLA will earn 20% from 4-9 p.m. on that day. All you have to do is turn in one of our flyers when you dine in, carry-out, or receive a delivery. So let Happy Joe’s do the cooking for you on Tuesday, November 17th and help out FCCLA at the same time! Flyers are available now in room 137. They will also be available the night of the event at Happy Joes. Thanks for your support of FCCLA!

Shoes for the Shoeless
The Preble FFA would like to thank everyone who participated in the “Shoes for the Shoeless” drive. The drive will be concluded this Friday, so be sure to bring in any forgotten shoes. Please bring your shoes to the Agribusiness classrooms by Friday. Thank you for all of your donations to those less fortunate.

Paul's Pantry Food Drive
Hey Preble Students and Staff! We still have 24 hours to collect food for the Paul’s Pantry Food Drive. So far only FOUR CLASSES have signed up to donate—can we do better??? If YOU want to donate food but your classes don’t, please bring food items to the Main Office tomorrow before school OR ask your period 3 teacher to allow you to bring it down to the truck during PA announcements tomorrow. We are a big school with a big heart—please make an effort to help out in this food drive.

West High will be hosting an Armed Services Night on Wednesday, Nov. 11th from
6:00p.m. – 7:30p.m. in the Thune Center. Representatives from each of the five branches will do a short presentation pertaining to their branch. This will be followed with an opportunity to meet with individuals from each branch of the Armed Services.

PFM Test Out
The Personal and Financial Management Test-Out is scheduled for Tuesday, November 17 and Thursday November 19. The test will be given from 3:15pm to approximately 4:45pm. Sign-up for this test is from Monday, November 2 through Monday, November 9 before and after school and during the lunch hours in the Main Office. A $5.00 examination fee is required when you sign up.

Students may check out a PFM textbook, overnight, from the LMC.

The test will also be given in Spanish this year. Interested students can pick up Spanish Test-Out letter in Room 149.

ASVAB
This announcement is for students who took the Armed Services Military Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) on October 27th.

Please report to the Student Services Office. An officer from the Armed Services is at Preble to interpret the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery or ASVAB. Your ASVAB results will be available. Please bring a pencil. This will be the only interpretation given at Preble.

NYC Trip
Plans for the Preble School Trip to New York City are well underway.

It is not too late to join, but you must stop by Mr. Marcelle’s or Mr. Abts’ room to sign up this week!

We will be having an informational meeting on Thursday after school Nov. 5th (day & date) in room 115. All current high school students INCLUDING seniors are eligible to attend. Seniors this trip would be a great graduation gift and conclusion to your high school career! If you can not make the meeting, stop by to see Mr. Abts or Mr. Marcelle.

NWTC will is sponsoring a Campus Career Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11. Juniors and Seniors will have the opportunity to learn about the admission process, financial aid, and career opportunities through divisional tours. Registration deadline is Nov. 6th. Application available in the Career Center.


NWTC will also host a separate Campus Career Day for Multicultural Junior and Senior students on Wednesday, November 18. Pick up a permission slip today! They are due this week. Further information in the Career Center.

Are you interested in studying abroad?
The UW-Colleges program is designed to give high school students a stimulating and exciting college study abroad experience. Students will travel to China where they will study the Chinese culture and language. Students will earn four college credits as well. Stop in the Career Center for further details.

Musical Tickets
Tickets are now on sale for this years musical Les Miserables. You may purchase tickets before school from 7-7:30 or after school from 3-3:30 in the ticket booth. Tickets are $10 and the dates are November 13-14, and 19-21st. Don’t miss your chance to see one of the best shows that ever played on Broadway.

Boys VolleyballThe boy's volleyball season came to an end last night in a sectional semi-final match against Kaukauna. The Storm lost 15-25, 23-25, and 11-25.

WKCE
The 10th grade WKCE Social Studies and Language Arts Part 2 tests will be tomorrow, Nov. 5 from 7:50 – 9:30am.

Culinary Arts will be providing a hot, tasty breakfast to all 10th graders in the commons.

All 10th graders need to report to your assigned rooms and bring a few #2 pencils to take the test.

Classes will begin at 9:40 tomorrow.

Girls Soccer
Attention girls interested in soccer, there will be an informational meeting after school on Tuesday in the health room across from the weight room.

Attention Link Crew Leaders:
The bus for the Leader Conference leaves Preble at 9:30 Thursday and will return around 2:45. Leaders should plan to meet in the auditorium by 9:15 Thursday morning. Be sure to bring a lunch with you as we will be eating at Southwest but will not have access to the cafeteria. Check with your teachers about any material you will miss and wear your shirt.

If you have decided you will not be attending but have turned in a permission slip, please let an advisor know as soon as possible.

Someone left a Texas Instruments calculator in the auditorium. Please come and ID it in Student Services.

Shadow a Nurse Day
A representative from Bellin College will be here this Friday, Nov. 6 during period 2. If you have questions about their college or the “Shadow a Nurse day, you may sign up in the Career Center to meet with her.

Boys Basketball
This is a reminder to all boys who are planning to try out for basketball this year. All the paperwork is due before practice starts on November 16. You can turn in your physical card, and co curricular form to the main office and your grade sheet to Coach Gillis room 259 or Coach Greenawald room 242. If you do not have all of the paper work in you will not practice. If you have not signed up yet see Coach Gillis or Coach Greenawald as soon as possible.

Men's Swim Team
Green Bay United Men's swim team will be beginning its 2nd season shortly. Any men interested in joining please plan to attend the Parent's meeting at Edison Middle School at 7 p.m. on Tuesday November 10th. The meeting will be held in the Edison Cafeteria. All levels of swimmers are welcome!

Tickets are now on sale for this years musical Les Miserables. You may purchase tickets before school from 7-7:30 or after school from 3-3:30 in the ticket booth. Yearbook
There will be no yearbook staff meeting today after school. However, we do need pairs of students to proof the underclassmen mug shots this week. If you can help, we will be working after school on Thursday and Friday in Room 205. Anyone who is already trained on preparing photos may work any time this week.

Vox Box
The Vox Box writing group and the Knitting Club will both be meeting this Wednesday after school in Room 205. All are welcome.

The permission slip to attend Thursday’s Leader Conference at Southwest is due back by the end of school today. Please see one of the advisors if you have any questions.

Remember that our bus will leave at 9:30 on Thursday and will return at 2:45 so you will miss all of your classes if you attend and you should check with your teachers before Thursday. Shadow a Nurse Day
Bellin college of Nursing will hold their annual “Shadow A Nurse Day” on Monday, November 9 7:50am-12:30pm for interested juniors and seniors. Students will shadow nurses at Aurora hospital in the following areas: medical/surgery, orthopedics, maternity, emergency rehabilitation, cardiac, and oncology. There are only 6 available spots. Stop in the Career Center for further information.

The varsity boy’s volleyball team won its first regional match against Appleton East Friday night 16-25, 25-19, 25-23, and 25-18. The team will travel to Kaukauna for its sectional match Tuesday night.

Buzz staff, we will be meeting on Monday after school to work on articles. The layout editors should also be there at 3:05 in room 132.

Girls Volleyball
The girls’ volleyball team fell one match short of qualifying for state by losing to Kaukauna in the sectional final on Saturday night. Congratulations to the team on a great season and thanks to all the fans who supported the team last week and throughout the year.

All girls’ volleyball players need to turn in their equipment, banquet information and money to Coach Heimerman by Tuesday.

Next week Tuesday, November 10th is National Mix It Up At Lunch Day – an opportunity to meet new people and broaden your horizons. There will be music, dancing, games and Lifesavers! Stay in during your lunch period on November 10th and share the fun with us! It’s time to Mix It Up‼

PFM Test Out
The Personal and Financial Management Test-Out is scheduled for Tuesday, November 17 and Thursday November 19. The test will be given from 3:15pm to approximately 4:45pm. Sign-up for this test is from Monday, November 2 through Monday, November 9 before and after school and during the lunch hours in the Main Office. A $5.00 examination fee is required when you sign up. Students will need receipt to use test out book during their lunch, study hall, before and after school in the LMC.

The test will also be given in Spanish this year. Interested students can pick up Spanish Test-Out letter in Room 149.

Cross Country
Preble High School was represented by 3 individuals at Saturday’s WIAA State Meet in Wisconsin Rapids.

Senior Matt VandeHei placed 64th out of 190 Division 1 athletes. Congratulations Matt! Lauren Orfield placed 113th and Jill Englebert placed 129th out of 190 runners. Congratulations girls on your fantastic efforts at the state meet! Thank you all Cross Country runners for your efforts throughout the year and a special thank you to all who supported the sectional and state athletes by either running with the participants or attending this weekends meet in Wisconsin Rapids.

Are you interested in studying abroad?
The UW-Colleges program is designed to give high school students a stimulating and exciting college study abroad experience. Students will travel to China where they will study the Chinese culture and language. Students will earn four college credits as well. Stop in the Career Center for further details.

WKCE
The 10th grade WKCE Science and Language Arts Part 1 tests will be tomorrow, Nov. 3 from 7:50 – 9:30am.

Free Breakfast for sophomores will be in the commons until 7:45. You must have your ID.

All 10th graders need to report to your assigned rooms and bring a few #2 pencils to take the test.

Classes will begin at 9:40 tomorrow.
