Government AP
There were will a Government AP Review session after school today in Room 105.

Attention Art Club Members:
We will be meeting today, Thursday, April 30 to do finger painting and vote for new Art Club Leaders for next year. If you are interested in being a leader for next year, you need to be at this meeting. The final Art Club meeting on May 21st will be our end of the year party. Permission slips for the henna art is required. There will be an optional meeting on
May 28th for anyone interested in doing henna for Art Street.

NWTC’s Multicultural Resource Center

NWTC’s Multicultural Resource Center is offering a free, four-day summer program to help minority students make the transition into college. The program runs from June 15-18th from 8:30am-1:30pm. Topics will include instructor and course expectations, note taking, test preparation, time management, and involvement in college activities. Registration forms available in the Career Center.

Student Council members!

Please plan to attend a meeting TOMORROW during PERIOD 4 in room 205 to plan end-of-year events. Those students who plan to attend the state conference this Saturday and Sunday must pick up parent permission forms TODAY in room 200. Any member who cannot attend should see Mrs. Marshall if you cannot miss class that hour.

ICSC
The Green Bay Schools is looking for students to run for the Intra-City Student Council for the 09-10 school year. Five students will be elected next week at each city school to form the Council, which meets monthly with the School Board. The Board encourages all students interested in this opportunity to run for rep, as they would like a diverse group from each school. This involves a time commitment, and membership on the ICSC will also place students on the Preble Student Council, which expects a time commitment for its projects, also. The intent-to-run forms are available in the Main Office, and are due TOMORROW MORNING at 7:30 AM.

Volunteer Information

Aurora Visiting Nurses located on Discovery Dr. is looking for volunteers on Friday, May 29 from 1:15pm – 4:00pm. to assist with their car wash. This is an early release day for students. Further details in the Career Center.

Service Hours

Seniors are reminded that service hours are due in the Career Center on Tuesday, May 26th. If you will not have your service hours completed by this time, please stop in the Career Center to speak with Mrs. Bossell about completing a “service-learning plan”. Having a “plan” on file will allow you to participate in the graduation ceremony. Once your service hours are complete, you will receive your diploma.

Wear Bandana Day for Mrs. Sundstrom

Wear Bandana Day for Mrs. Sundstrom is on Thursday, April 30th. You are only able to wear teal and purple bandanas. It will cost $1.00 on April 30th to wear the bandana. There will be limited bandanas available during the lunch hours on Tuesday the 28th and Wednesday the 29th. The cost of bandanas will be donations only. All proceeds will go towards finding a cure for LMS.

Girls Golf

Girls Track and Field JV’s
The Preble girls placed second in the 5-team JV meet last night held here at Preble. The girls were led by first place finishes in the 100 and 300 hurdles by Jena Smits, Jacy Georgia in the pole vault and Kayla Alexander in the 800. Congratulations girls.

Popcorn for Fines

Popcorn for fines only happens every few years. Today is the day. You still have time to trade microwave popcorn for your fine. See the LMC window for details.

Student Council
Attention Student Council members! Plan to meet this Friday, May 1 during Period 5 in Room 205 for an end-of-year event planning meeting. If you cannot attend due to class commitments, please see Mrs.Marshall in room 200.


ICSC
Attention all 9th, 10th, and 11th graders! Green Bay schools is looking for five students to represent Preble High School on the Intra-City Student Council with the School Board next year. The Board would like a diverse representation of the students at Preble, and if you are willing to attend meetings on Sunday and Monday evenings and at other times throughout the month, you are encouraged to run for ICSC rep. Forms are now available in the Main Office and are due this Friday at 7:30 AM. The election will be held next week.

SENIORS:
Service Learning hours are due Tuesday, May 26. Your requirement is not complete until they are on file in the Career Center. If you have completed the hours, please turn them in as soon as possible. If you will not have met the 24 hour requirement by May 26 and wish to participate in the graduation ceremony, you must have a “service plan” on file in the Career Center indicating how you will complete the service. Once the requirement is met, you will receive your diploma. Remember the “Plan” is your ticket to participate in the graduation ceremony!

Tennis
The Boys Varsity tennis Team defeated Sheboygan South 5-2 Singles winners were: Jaren Sternard and Shane Heyrman. Doubles winners were: Andrew Mc Donald & Connor Dougherty, Matt Nockerts & Aron Stumbas, Jordan Weuve & John VandenHouten.

The JV Boys Tennis Team defeated Sheboygan South 7-2 Singles winner was Daniel Ullmer, Doubles winners were: Brad Johnson & Taylor Ryan, Sovann Khong & Alex Webster, Neil Ropson & Aaron Drossart, Sam Katers & Collin Marshall, and AJ Kempe & Tanner Keim.

Attention: All track and field athletes
This is a reminder to all track and field athletes that we have team picture day today at practice. Hustle down immediately after school, and get yourself prepared for pictures. There are other groups that are getting team pictures as well. We don’t want to lose our spot in the picture rotation.

Please bring your uniform. If you forgot it, make arrangements to get it during your lunch period. We do not have any extra uniforms to borrow for the pictures.

If you wish to purchase the picture package, you need payment in the Photographers envelope.

Our men’s track and field team won the Green Bay City JV meet last night at Preble. Our team won 14 of the 18 events, and compiled 298 team points compared to the next highest team that had 73 team points.

Yearbook
To all students interested in a 2009 yearbook: The deadline for ordering and paying through the yearbook company has passed. They will no longer accept your payment. Our deadline for giving the company our final numbers is this Thursday, no exceptions. If you still would like a 2009 yearbook, the cost is now $60 and can be ordered through Mrs. Sutton in Room 205 before or after school. After this Thursday, there is NO guarantee that we will have any extra books to sell to you next fall. Also, all orders that are only partial payments will be cancelled if the full payment is not received by Mrs. Sutton, not the company, by this Thursday. See Mrs. Sutton if you have any questions.

Chess Club

The Hornet Chess Club finishes its season and end-of-the-year tournament today at 3:00 in room 117. Congratulations to these Final Four students: Fred Dorn, Brandon Longton, Chad Prevost, and McKinley Meyer. All members should plan to attend, and any students interested in joining the chess club next year are also welcome.

Attention Soccer Fans

Last night in a battle of Goal Keepers, the Preble Lady Hornets battled Southwest through double overtime to a 0-0 tie. Taylor Weuve made 8 saves in recording the shutout for Preble.
The next game is Thursday evening at home against Sheboygan South. The JV game begins at 4:30 followed by Varsity at 6:30.

Girls Track Announcement
The Preble girls track and field team won the 5 team city meet last night at West High. The girls used their depth to out score Notre Dame.


First places finishes include Gina Gigot in the 100 and 300 hurdles, Kristen short in the discus, the 3200 relay consisting of Kaitlyn Soukup, Jordan Michels, Kali Cibula, and Steph Stock and the 400 relay of Emma Hendricks, Kayla Counard, Johanna Harris and Kaitlin Medenwald. Congratulations girls.

Boys Golf
Hornets take 4th at GBCC Invite
The Hornet varsity golf team placed 4th at the 11 team Green Bay Country Club Invite.
Tom Boockmeier tied for medalist honors with a 6 over par 78. Brandon Chaloupka finished tied for 8th with an 83.

Intra-City Student Council
The Green Bay Area School District is looking for students who are interested in running for the position of Preble representative for the Intra-City Student Council. This would be a position for NEXT school year. These representatives must make a commitment to attend meetings on Sunday evenings, on some weeknights, and some school day mornings. The intent-to-run form is now available in the Main Office and is due this Friday morning at 7:30.

The Culinary Arts Club
The Culinary Arts Club will be selling fresh squeezed lemonade and popcorn today outside the auditorium during all lunch periods.

Buy a 20 ounce cup of fresh squeezed lemonade for only $2.50 and receive a complimentary bag of popcorn. Popcorn may be purchased for only 75 cents.

All proceeds go towards service projects within our building!

The Presidential Service Award
The Presidential Service Award will be awarded to students who have completed 100+ hours of service from May 1, 2008 – April 30, 2009. Recipients will receive a medal and certificate signed by President Obama for their service.

If you are one of these outstanding students, please submit your service forms to Mrs. Bossell in the Career Center by April 30th.

A list of students with 100+ hours has been posted on the wall outside of the Student Service office. Please check it over. If you feel your name has been omitted, please stop in the Career Center and speak with Mrs. Bossell.

This year, the Civic Engagement Award will be given to freshmen completing 25-99 service hours by April 30th. If there is a freshman that has completed 100+ hours, he/she will receive the Presidential Award.

Anyone who turns in service hours on or after May 1st will be able to use these hours toward the award the following year.

Seniors, graduation is quickly approaching.
As part of your graduation requirement, you must have 24 hours of service learning completed. Those who do not meet the requirement will not receive a diploma. Students needing hours are encouraged to stop in the Career Center for ideas on how to fulfill the requirement.

Attention all 3rd hour teachers and seniors:
Please have a student report to the commons with a count of your seniors to pick up the Senior Scholarship Survey. Please complete this during 3rd hour and then have a student return them at the end of the hour to Student Services. It is important that all seniors complete these surveys to the best of their knowledge, as we are in the planning process for this program.

Last night our men’s track and field team won the Green Bay City meet for the 11th consecutive year. Our boys have now won the meet 19 of the last 21 years.

Tonight, our track team hosts the City JV meet at Prebles stadium. Events begin at 3:45. Come out and support your team.

Do Something

Thanks to the Latino Club and those members of the Do Something Club who battled the nasty weather on Saturday to help Heritage Hill prepare for their opening day. It was not easy, as service should not be, but you did a great thing and they were very thankful!

Unity Expo

A big “thank you” goes out to all students and staff who participated in Friday’s Unity Expo. The top exhibit winners were Venezuela and Jamaica. Top T-shirt design winners were Johnny Chang, Alyssa Pokel, and Kalia Xiong. Winners will be receiving prizes this week. Student Coordinators who have receipts to submit to Mrs. Marshall must do so this week in Room 200.

There will be practice for all track athletes who are not in the varsity city meet today. Report to the fieldhouse after school for practice and the JV meet lineup.

Because we have two consecutive days with track meets, and there is not time to meet in mass, I am reminding all track and field athletes that we will have team pictures on Wednesday after school. Please bring your meet uniform to practice. We do not have any extra uniforms to loan out. If you wish to purchase a package, have the envelope filled out with payment included.

On Friday, our men’s track and field team won the Preble Relays for the 14th consecutive year. That also makes the 25th time Preble has won the meet since the meet began in 1978. Preble won 7 events. The high hurdle record was tied at the meet by Matt Dobson, Weston Malcore, Greg Parent, and Alex Wouters. The 400 Relay record was broken by the Preble team of Ben Daniels, Matt Pieschek, Dillon Larson, and Jesse VandenAvond.

The Green Bay City Varsity meet will be held at West H.S. today with events beginning at 4:00 today. Come and support our girls and boys track and field teams.

Girls Soccer
Last night the Preble Soccer Hornets won a conference game against Manitowoc Lincoln 3-2 in double overtime. The game winner was scored on a shot from Karli Wagner, scoring her second goal of the game. The final goal was assisted by Kasey VanderWeegen. Amber McIntyre scored the other goal for Preble. Goalkeeper Tori Moule had 4 saves for the Lady Hornets.

The JV team also played and defeated Manitowoc 6-0.

The next Varsity game is tomorrow morning at home against Appleton West. Game time is 11:00 a.m. See you there!

Lemonade and Popcorn

The Bowling Team Party will be held at 3:30 on Monday at Rivera Lanes. The cost is $3.00.

Track and Field
Today, our school will host the 32nd Annual Green Bay Preble Men’s Relays in our Stadium.

There will be seven schools competing. Field Events begin at 4:00, with all running events beginning at 5:00.

Come out and support our Men’s track and field team, as they attempt to defend their title.

The Preble boys tennis team defeated West DePere 7-2 Singes winners were: Danny Fitchett, Jaren Sternard, and Shane Heyrman. Doubles winners were: Matt Nockers and Aron Stumbrus, Connor Dougherty and Jacob Vandevelde, Jordan Weuve and John VendenHouten, Brad Johnson and Taylor Ryan. The Boys tennis team was also defeated by Depere 7-2 Singles winner was Ka Lee and Matt Nockerts and Aron Stumbrus won in Doubles.

SPRING FLING CAR SHOW

Pack Your Sack

This is a reminder that tomorrow is the last day to bring in items for the pack your sack campaign to help out Goodwill and the Salvation Army. We are asking for students to bring clothing and household items to your first hour classes tomorrow. Classes that donate the most items per student will receive a breakfast party! All items will be collected during first hour tomorrow.

Seniors, are looking for ideas on how to complete your service hours?

FCCLA State Leadership Conference

On Monday, April 20th, several Preble students competed in STAR events at the FCCLA State Leadership Conference at the Kalahari Lodge in the Wisconsin Dells. Congratulations to the following students:
-Yer Xiong won a gold medal for her Teach and Train portfolio and became the National Qualifier to represent Wisconsin at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference to be held in Nashville Tennessee in July. Congratulations Yer!


-Jennifer Rabas won a gold medal for her Focus on Children Project and became the National Qualifier to represent Wisconsin at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference as well. Congratulations Jennifer!

-Jennie Collins and Mallory Woelfel won a bronze medal for their Life Planning Event Portfolio. Congratulations Jennie and Mallory!

-Ted Willette and Jazmin LaPlante won silver medals for their performance in the Culinary Arts Competition. Congratulations Ted and Jazmin!

All of these students should be commended for their hard work and dedication to FCCLA!

Girls Soccer
Congratulations to the Preble Soccer Hornets. Last night the ladies defeated Ashwaubenon 2-1. Emily Young scored the game winning goal off a direct kick seven minutes into overtime. The Hornets other goal was scored by Sierra Valentine with an assist by Kayla Kawula. Taylor Weuve had 6 saves for Preble. The next game is tomorrow evening at Manitowoc.

Pack Your Sack
It’s that time again! Pack your sack to help out Goodwill and the Salvation Army in their campaign to collect household items and clothing. First hour classes will be collecting from April 20th-24th, and your donations will help support those in need. Classes that donate the most items per student will receive a breakfast party! All items will be collected during first hour on Friday.

Seniors, are looking for ideas on how to complete your service hours?
Many service- learning opportunities are posted in the Career Center. Check it out. Remember you must meet the 24 hour requirement to be eligible to receive your diploma. If you feel you will not have the hours completed in time, please stop in the Career Center to complete a “service-learning plan.” This will allow you to attend the graduation ceremony. Once your hours have been completed, you will receive your diploma.

Volunteer Opportunity
Syble Hopp is in need of 6-8 volunteers to assist with decorations for the Prom this Saturday, April 25 at 9:00am. Duties consist mainly of using the air compressor to blow up balloons. Sign up in the Career Center.

Congratulations to the Freshmen Softball team for winning Freshmen Ashwaubeon Invitational Tournament last weekend. The team took 1st place in the 8 team tournament by defeating Appleton North, BayPort, and Ashwaubeon in the final game.

The Varsity & JV softball games are cancelled for tonight. Indoor practices will be held Freshman 3:15-4:15, JV's 4:15-5:15, Varsity 5:15-6:15

Bowling Team
The Bowling Team Party will be held at 3:30 on Monday at Rivera Lanes. The cost is $3.00.

2009 TREES for Tomorrow GIRL’S we will meet in Mrs.Bornowski’s room 217 after school on Tuesday, April 21st to go over last minute details.

Yearbook Club and Organization Photo Day

This Wednesday is Yearbook Club and Organization Photo Day. A schedule was sent to all teachers and should be posted in your classrooms. Please check the times that your club or organization is being photographed. If your name was submitted by the group adviser, you should leave your classroom a few minutes before the appointment time and go quietly to the auditorium where you need to line up quickly by height, tallest to shortest. You should return quietly to your classroom immediately following your photo. The only announcement that will be made will be a brief announcement at the beginning of each class period for those groups scheduled that hour so as to reduce the disruption to learning. Advisers are requested to attend the photo session for their group to verify participation of members of the group.

Please note that there are two groups added that were NOT on the schedule sent out to teachers, Diversity Circles, which will be at 12:05 and FCA which will be at 9:50.

Yearbook Fees

This is also a reminder that ALL yearbook fees must be RECEIVED by the yearbook company by this Friday, April 24. No late payments will be accepted by the yearbook company after that date. We have to turn our final numbers in immediately following this date and no extra yearbooks will be ordered. The only extra books might be the overruns that occasionally occur; however, there is never a guarantee how many of those we will receive to sell. Those will cost $60 instead of $47 plus tax. If you don’t want to miss out on the 2009 all color yearbook, please make sure that your order was paid. Information is on the counter in the main office or see Mrs. Sutton in Room 205 for assistance in contacting the yearbook company.

State Forensics Festival

Congratulations to the 34 students who went to Madison on Friday and Saturday to compete in the State Forensics Festival. They are an exceptional team who worked hard and did very well making Preble proud.

We had 23 entries in the competition, and received 14 Gold medals, 7 Silver, and 2 Bronze.

National Day of Silence
Today, the Gay-Straight Alliance and supporters are participating in the National Day of Silence.

The vow of silence is to protest the discrimination and harassment still facing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) people and their allies.

Please respect their choice to remain silent. Any disrespect toward those participating is considered harassment. What are you going to do to end the silence?

Teachers, students who have turned in a teacher permission slip to participate in the Day of Silence have been issued a ‘speaking card’ to explain their silence in both English and Spanish.

Girls Soccer

Last night the Preble Soccer Hornets lost a hard fought game at Notre Dame 1-0. Goalkeeper Taylor Weuve had 15 saves for Preble. The JV team defeated Notre Dame 2-1. This weekend Preble will compete at the Wausau Invitational Tournamant. The next home game is Tuesday against Ashwaubenon.

Next Saturday April 25th is Global Youth Service Day.

Forensics
Thirty-four members of the 2009 Preble Forensics Team are on their way to Madison today to compete in the State Festival. Over 380 high schools from all over the state will compete in this two day event. Our team will definitely be “Seeking the Gold!” for Preble and we wish them Good Luck!!

The Summer School applications are available in the Student Services office. Please stop in during your study hall, lunch period or before or after school to pick up an application and packet if needed. We will be collecting applications daily. Make sure you fill out the form completely, including parent signature and course number. Some courses need a teacher signature. The cost is $13.00 for each class. Waivers are available, see your counselor if you have any questions. Sign up early- some classes such as Physical Education fill up immediately. See your counselor if you have questions.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes has announced a date for their first annual Spaghetti Dinner Fund-raiser. The dinner is set for April 19th at 6 pm. The dinner will raise scholarship funds to send Preble students to one of many FCA sport camps this summer. The event is open to any student,
coach, teacher or administrator and their family. Details are at the front office. FCA meets each Sunday night at 7 pm. Come join us!

Battle of the Bands
Hey Students! Looking for something to do this weekend? Attend the Purple Parrot's Second Annual Battle of the Bands hosted by West High School. This is NOT your normal concert! The show starts at 6 PM with battling high school bands from the Green Bay area, including two bands from right here at Preble: Lethal Acorn and Syntheticism. The competition is followed by three local headline bands: Holly and the Non-Italians, Beach Patrol and Winter Children. Tickets are only $7 at the door. It's going to be an awesome show, so round up your friends and head to West for a great Saturday evening of entertainment!

The Day of Silence
The Day of Silence is this Friday, April 17th. All across the country, hundreds of thousands of students at thousands of middle schools, high schools, and college campuses are taking a day-long vow of silence to protest the discrimination and harassment still facing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) people and their allies.
The Preble Gay-Straight Alliance members and supporters that would still like to participate must have a permission form signed by each of their teachers. Only those students who have permission forms turned in by 7:10 AM on 4/17 will be allowed to participate. Extra forms are available from Mr. Fellinger in room 106.
The vow of silence will be taken at 7:10 in room 106 on Friday. Please be on time.

The Presidential Service Award

The Presidential Service Award will be awarded to students who have completed 100+ hours of service from May 1, 2006 – April 30, 2007. Recipients will receive a medal and a certificate signed by President Obama for their service.

If you are one of these outstanding students, please submit your service hours to Mrs. Bossell in the Career Center by April 30th.

New this year is the Civic Engagement Award. This award will be given to freshmen only who have completed 25-99 hours of service as of April 30th. If there is a freshmen who has completed 100+ hours by April 30, he/she will receive the Presidential Award.

Seniors, graduation is quickly approaching.

As part of your graduation requirement, you must have 24 hours of service learning completed. Those who do not meet the requirement will not receive a diploma. If you cannot complete the requirement by graduation time, and would like to participate in the graduation ceremony, please see Mrs. Bossell in the Career Center to complete a service “plan”. Having a “plan” on file will allow you to attend the ceremony. Once you’ve completed the hours, you will receive your diploma.

Congratulations to our Men’s track and field team who defeated Green Bay East last night at our own facility. Preble earned 121 points compared to East, who totaled 25 points. Preble won 16 of the 18 events in the victory.

2009 TREES for Tomorrow scholarship applications ARE DUE TODAY!
Submit your application to your science teacher by 3:15 today. You will be notified by Friday April 17th if you have been accepted.

Knitting Club
This announcement is for anyone who attended at least three meetings of the Knitting Club this school year. There is a sign up list for the yearbook group photo on the door of Room 205. Please sign up if you attended Knitting Club this past year at least three times, especially if you donated knitted items for the homeless or for students at Danz Elementary. We need your names if you are to appear in the yearbook photo. Only two people have signed up so far. You will NOT be allowed to appear in the photo unless you have signed up in advance. This is true of all clubs which will be photographed next Wednesday during group photo day.

Yearbook
This is also a reminder that the 2009 yearbook payments must be RECEIVED by the yearbook company by April 24. There is no guarantee that payments received after that date will ensure that you will receive a yearbook. Information on how to contact the yearbook company is on the counter in the main office. AP Government
There will be an AP government review in Room 105 right after school on Thursday.

Athletic Training
Bellinhealth is offering an athletic training student workshop on Saturday, May 30. This workshop is open to students in grades 9-12 interested in becoming a high school student athletic trainer or interestd in athletic training as a profession. There is a $15 fee. Registration due date is April 30th. Stop in Career Center for further details.

Link Crew
Reminder to students who have been nominated to Link Crew for next year: If you are interested in being a leader please remember to attend one of these informational meetings. You MUST attend one of these meetings if you want to be a leader next year.

Today during the lunch hours in the LMC. Please note, this location has been changed, and the meeting will now be in the LMC instead of the auditorium. These meetings will start two minutes after the period begins and will only last about 10 minutes so you will have plenty of time left to get to lunch.

These meetings will start promptly at the listed starting time, so do not be late or you will not be allowed to attend that particular meeting.

Girls Soccer
Last night the Preble Soccer Hornets battled to a 1-1 tie against Bay Port. The lone goal was scored by Kacey VanderWegen. Taylor Weuve had 10 saves in the goal, including a spectacular game saver in the 2nd overtime on a Bay Port Break away. The Hornet JV team won their game against Bay Port.
The next game is at Notre Dame on Thursday evening.

NWTC is sponsoring their annual “Multicultural Campus Career Day” on Thursday, April 23 from 7:30 – noon. All junior and seniors of color with a 2.0/better GPA are welcomed to attend. Our track and field meet starting time was moved ahead to a 3:30 start time. Because of this, all men track and field athletes who will be competing in the field events, and the first running events, will be excused at 2:45 today. If you do not compete until later in the meet, or if you are not eligible for this meet, please remain in class until school is finished. The meet lineup will be posted by noon today down in the locker room area.

Are you a senior who has a goal of earning a college degree but are short the necessary units for admission? UW-Fox Valley is offering a new program called the UWFox Bridge Program. Students attend during the summer term as a “Special Student”, take “Learning Skills” and an additional course that fulfills the credit deficiency. If you complete the course with a “C” or better, you will begin the fall term as a degree-seeking student. Further information in the Career Center.

On Thursday evening of last week the Varsity Lady Hornets began the conference season with a 3-0 win over Green Bay East. Goals were scored by Kasey VanderWegen, Emily Young and Sierra Valentine. Taylor Weuve earned the shutout in goal. Score of the JV game was Preble 8 - East 0. Last night Varsity lost a hard fought game in double overtime to Appleton East 3-2. Preble goals were scored by Sierra Valentine and Karli Wagner. Tori Moule recorded 7 saves in goal.
The next game is tonight at home against Bay Port. The JV game begins at 4:30 followed by Varsity at 6:30. See you there!

Sting Cancer Sting Stronger Wear Yellow Day
It is that time of year again. The second annual Sting Cancer Sting StrongerWear Yellow Day will again be on May 13th. Mayor Schmitt is proclaiming it “wear yellow day” throughout Green Bay and county supervisor Tom Hinz is taking it a step further to proclaim all of Brown county wear yellow on May 13th on behalf of Preble Sting Cancer.

We are hoping for lots of support and creative ideas for this very special day.

Sting Cancer members-tomorrow’s meeting will focus on ideas for May 13th and we will be joined by the new recipient of our Sting it Forward program, The recently formed Sting Cancer Team from Notre Dame Academy.

Since ND’s team is coming to learn how the original SC team goes about successfully planning major events, I am urging all SC members to make it a priority to come and show ND’s Sting Cancer how to help make a difference in the community.

Girls Track and Field

The Preble girls’s track and field team placed 2nd among the 6 team Eastern Divisional meet in Manitowac last night. The team received 5 first place finishes, the 4 lap relay consisting of Kayla Counard, Kaitlin Medenwald, Jena Voss, and Johanna Harris, the 3200 meter relay consisting of Kaitlyn Soukup, Lauren Schauer, Steph Stock and Kali Cibula, two firsts from Gina Gigot and a first from Kim Drewiske. Xcongratulations girls.

Boys Track and Field
Our men’s track and field team their second consecutive FRC Conference East Division Indoor Title last night and out distanced second place Green Bay East by over 100 points. Preble won 11 of the 16 events, and had numerous other high place finishes, providing team depth to secure the conference win. Our men’s next meet will be this coming Saturday at UW Whitewater for the State Indoor Championships.

GSA
The Gay-Straight Alliance will be meeting tonight after school in room 107. Please plan on attending if you plan on being part of the Day of Silence.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes has announced a date for their first annual Spaghetti Dinner Fund-raiser. The dinner is set for April 19th at 6 pm. The dinner will raise scholarship funds to send Preble students to one of many FCA sport camps this summer. The event is open to any student,
coach, teacher or administrator and their family. Details are at the front office. FCA meets each Sunday night at 7 pm. Come join us!

Scholarships
The Green Bay Kiwanis Club Downtown Scholarship has been extended. Students pursuing careers in engineering, math & science education, and the Fine Art (limited to music, drama, art or art/music education) are eligible.

The Will to Win Scholarship Program is offering scholarships to seniors with asthma that have excelled in one of the following areas: performing arts, community service, athletics, visual arts or science.

Do Something

Seventy-five years to the day after President Roosevelt signed the Civilian Conservation Corps into law, the House of Representatives sent President Obama a sweeping expansion of national service that will engage millions of Americans in meeting national needs and solving local problems through volunteer service.

If you are interested in learning more about service, or the Americorp program, please come to the Do Something Meeting in Room 210 at 3:10 today.

Matt Vaness from Americorp will be helping Do Something plan our last project for the year. We will be focusing our attention on “Youth Service Day” April 25TH. Please join us if you are interested in helping out or even just need service hours!

The Presidential Service Award
The Presidential Service Award will be awarded to students who have completed 100+ hours of service from May 1, 2006 – April 30, 2007. Recipients will receive a medal and a certificate signed by President Obama for their service.

If you are one of these outstanding students, please submit your service hours to Mrs. Bossell in the Career Center by April 30th.

New this year is the Civic Engagement Award. This award will be given to freshmen only who have completed 25-99 hours of service as of April 30th. If there is a freshmen who has completed 100+ hours by April 30, he/she will receive the Presidential Award.

Graduation

Seniors, graduation is quickly approaching. An update of service hours has been posted outside of the Student Service Office. Please check it out for any discrepancies. As part of your graduation requirement, you must have 24 hours of service learning completed. Those who do not meet the requirement will not receive a diploma. If you cannot complete the requirement by graduation time, and would like to participate in the graduation ceremony, please see Mrs. Bossell in the Career Center to complete a service “plan”. Having a “plan” on file will allow you to attend the ceremony. Once you’ve completed the hours, you will receive your diploma.

Track and Field

Preble Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo

Congratulations to the Preble Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo, these groups traveled to Eau Claire on Friday to participate in the 42nd annual Jazz Fest. Both groups performed and received great critiques and comments. In addition Greg Siegrist, Jonny Vesely and Sam DeVillers all received “Outstanding Soloist” awards. Congrats again and great job! See you all at practice tonight from 6:30 until 8:00!

The Buzz

There will be a staff meeting for the entire Buzz staff on Monday April 6, 2009. We will be discussing the upcoming conference in Oshkosh, plus passing out our new Buzz staff shirts. All articles for the April issue must be in for this meeting.

NHS inductees
Today during period 3 officers from the NHS will be notifying those students that will be inducted to NHS this spring.

Congratulations to those students who have worked hard to accomplish this award.

Thank you to the teachers for allowing this belief interruption to recognize these students.

Multicultural Campus Career Day

NWTC is sponsoring their annual “Multicultural Campus Career Day” on Thursday, April 23 from 7:30 – noon. All junior and seniors of color with a 2.0/better GPA are welcomed to attend. You will have the opportunity to learn about admissions, financial aid, and tour the campus. Transportation and breakfast will be provided. Further information along with permission slip is available in the Career Center.

PAC

The Preble PAC would like to thank all who donated money to the Stars and Stripes Honor Flights for World War II veterans. You helped raise nearly $350 in a single day for a cause that shows the true spirit of America. Thank you again! And remember, the real thank you, goes to the veterans who have fought in past wars and are fighting in current wars, for our liberty and freedom. PAC will meet on Wednesday after school in Room 105 to discuss North Korea. New members are always welcomed.

FCA
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes has announced a date for their first annual Spaghetti Dinner Fund-raiser. The dinner is set for April 19th at 6 pm. The dinner will raise scholarship funds to send Preble students to one of many FCA sport camps this summer. The event is open to any student, coach, teacher or administrator and their family. Details are at the front office. FCA meets each Sunday night at 7 pm. Come join us!

If you are interested in this XL Summer Performance Class offered here at Preble High School get more information or sign up in the office or the Athletic Training Room after school. Class will begin on Tuesday June 16th and will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays mornings.

Announcement for Post Prom Party
Juniors, your Prom will be here before you know it! It is on Saturday April 4 and we want to remind you about the Post Prom party that evening from 10:30p.m. to 2:00a.m. at Edison Middle School. You won’t want to miss all of the fun! There are so many activities to pick from, including: Black Jack, Ping Pong, board games, Basketball, Volleyball, Karaoke, a D.J. and more. There will be prizes given away all night, with some major prizes at the end of the evening. All Juniors and Prom Guests are welcome to this FREE party. You and your guest must be PRE-REGISTERED. Registration forms are in the main office. There will be a lot of food and snacks with soda and water also provided. This is a fun and safe way to end your very special evening!!

Track

The Preble girl’s track and field team placed 2nd in an eight team field at Neenah last night. The girls were lead by Gina Gigot’s 2 first place finishes in the hurdles and Katelyn Smith in the 1600 and Kaitlyn Soukup in the 800. Congratulations girls.

Our men’s freshman/sophomore track and field team did an outstanding job last night in winning the very prestigious UW – Oshkosh Titan Invitational. There were over 25 division one teams at this meet. Congratulations

Soccer
Last night a new era in Preble Soccer began. The Varsity Lady Hornets kicked-off the 2009 season with a 3-0 victory against Menasha. The Hornets were led by Sophomore Sierra Valentine who scored 2 goals and Junior Heather Hack who also scored a goal. Goalkeeper Taylor Weuve had 5 saves in recording the shutout. Way to go ladies!

Tonight Preble Varsity continues with another home game against Menominee Falls. Kickoff time is 6:30 p.m. Come see what all the excitement is about and cheer your Soccer Hornets. Good luck girls!

Tonight’s REHEARSAL for the CAST of Disco Fever will follow the schedule for Act. 1 Scenes 3 and 4.

All seniors among the cast and crews who did not get their picture taken yesterday for the playbill, should go to the auditorium at 3:15 today. Bring the biography forms with you.

The Presidential Service Award
The Presidential Service Award will be awarded to students who have completed 100+ hours of service from May 1, 2006 – April 30, 2007. Recipients will receive a medal and a certificate signed by President Obama for their service.

If you are one of these outstanding students, please submit your service hours to Mrs. Bossell in the Career Center by April 30th.

New this year is the Civic Engagement Award. This award will be given to freshmen only who have completed 25-99 hours of service as of April 30th. If there is a freshmen who has completed 100+ hours by April 30, he/she will receive the Presidential Award.

Seniors

Seniors, graduation is quickly approaching. An update of service hours has been posted outside of the Student Service Office. Please check it out for any discrepancies. As part of your graduation requirement, you must have 24 hours of service learning completed. Those who do not meet the requirement will not receive a diploma. If you cannot complete the requirement by graduation time, and would like to participate in the graduation ceremony, please see Mrs. Bossell in the Career Center to complete a service “plan”. Having a “plan” on file will allow you to attend the ceremony. Once you’ve completed the hours, you will receive your diploma.

These donations will help the effort to send as many Wisconsin World War II Veterans to Washington, D.C. as possible, so that they can see the War Memorial that was built in honor of them and their sacrifice. If you see a member of the PAC in the commons on today, please make a small donation, as every penny counts. Thank you.

The Preble Newsletter went to all parents via email yesterday. Your parent needs to signed up for parent connect in order to receive the newsletter. If your parent does not have an email address hard copies of the newsletter can be picked up in the main office.

If you would like your parent to have access to parent connect and receive important information like newsletters directions can be pick up directions in the main office or print them off the Preble website.

National Chemistry Olympiad Exam

On March 18th, several chemistry students took part in the Local section of the National Chemistry Olympiad Exam. Mr. Haller would like to thank all of those who took part in the exam, and would like to congratulate Megan Larson and McKinley Meyer who placed in the top ten of all students in North East Wisconsin. They have qualified to go onto the next round in the competition. Mr. Haller would also like to congratulate Ryan Mease who scored in the top two in North East Wisconsin for first year chemistry students. Thanks again to all who participated and good luck to those who go on to the next round!

Wisconsin State Honor’s Choir

Congratulations to Claire Bassett, Mary Arendt, Molly Mineau, and Dan Cape who were all selected for the Wisconsin State Honor’s Choir. They will get to attend an honor’ music camp this summer and perform at the State Music Convention next October.

Play Rehearsal

Tonight’s REHEARSAL for the CAST of Disco Fever will begin at 3:15 for music with Chuck and his Angels and G.G. Flash and his Actresses and then the rest of cast for Act. 2 Scenes 6 and 7 at 4:00. Crews will meet as scheduled.

After the rehearsal there will be a dinner break and then movie night for all cast members and any crew members who wish to attend, especially costumes and make-up.
A reminder that tomorrow at 3:15 all Heads and Co-Heads of Crews will meet with Mrs. Miller.
