MAC Scholars
MAC Scholars will meet TODAY after school from 3:00 to 4:00 pm in the back of the LMC by The Career Center

Prom

Juniors, your Prom will be here before you know it! It is on Saturday April 4 and we want to remind you about the Post Prom party that evening from 10:30p.m. to 2:00a.m. at Edison Middle School. You won’t want to miss all of the fun! There are so many activities to pick from, including: Black Jack, Ping Pong, board games, Basketball, Volleyball, Karaoke, a D.J. and more. There will be prizes given away all night, with some major prizes at the end of the evening. All Juniors and Prom Guests are welcome to this FREE party. You and your guest must be PRE-REGISTERED. Registration forms are in the main office. There will be a lot of food and snacks with soda and water also provided. This is a fun and safe way to end your very special evening!!

The guest forms for Junior Prom are now available in the main office. They are due back into the main office by April 2nd.

Art Club
Art Club is meeting this Thursday to make dream catchers. See you there.

Chess Club

The Hornet Chess Club will NOT meet today. The next meeting will be next Tuesday when the Club begins its end-of-season tournament.

Forensics

There will be a Forensics meeting tomorrow at 3:10 in Rm. 123. A lot of important information will be discussed and State permission forms given. All team members including the alternates are expected to attend.

Track

The preble girls track and field placed 8th in a 30 team meet at Oshkosh. The girls were lead by Gina Gigot’s first in the high hurdles and Steph Stock’s 3rd in the 400. Congratulations girls.

Also, there will be practice tonight for those not in the JV meet.

GSA

Immediately after school on Wednesday there will be a GSA meeting in room 107 to discuss the upcoming Day of Silence. Everyone is welcome.

In addition, students can collect Day of Silence teacher permission slips anytime during the day in room 106 – across from the teacher mailboxes.


Attention sophomore/junior girls and minority sophomore and junior students interested in engineering.

UW-Madison is offering a free 6 week Engineering Summer Program from June 21-July 31. Applicant must have one year of algebra, geometry, chemistry and a minimum of a 3.0/GPA. Housing, meals, and supervision will be provided. Application deadline is April 17. Further information in the Career Center.

UW-Oshkosh Preview Day
Reminder for students who received permission slips to attend the UW-Oshkosh Preview Day on April 17…permission slips are due in the Career Center today.

PAC

The Obama administration is questioning the viability of GM and Chrysler while the North Koreans are planning a missile launch next month. Join the Political Awareness Club right after school on Wednesday in Room 105 to discuss these and other issues of the day. New members are always welcomed.

Play Rehearsal

Tonight’s REHEARSAL for the CAST of Disco Fever will be for Act. 2 Scenes 4, 5, and 6. Scene 6 now also includes Lady Patricia. The rehearsal will be from 5:30-7:30.
Tomorrow after the rehearsal there will be a dinner break and then movie night for all cast members and any crew members who wish to attend, especially recommended for costumes and make-up

UCP
The Preble Unity Expo will be held on Friday, April 24. Any student who wishes to be a participant must fill in and return an applicant form from the Main Office.

Beginning today, the Unity Expo exhibit forms are available in the Main Office. Any students or groups of 4 who wish to have an exhibit at the Unity Expo must complete a form. They will be due next week before our break.

Come to the LMC during your lunch hour on Thursday, April 2nd for the Read On Preble book discussion of The Gospel According to Larry. We’ll have treats and you can earn extra credit!

Green Bay West High School is hosting their second annual Battle of the Bands on Saturday, April 18th, and they are looking for bands interested in competing.

LMC
Today the LMC is limited hours 3, 6 and 7 and closed hour 8.

Attention: All men’s and women’s track and field athletes.
We just received word from Bayport that tonight’s track meet has increased the entry from 2 per event to 3 per event.

The coaching staff will put together a new lineup and release form by noon today.
Please make an effort to come down to the Phy Ed area and check the new lineup to see if you are now an entry. You may need to get your uniform at lunch today and notify your parents that you will be attending the meet. The release time is at 1:55 today.


Again, all track and field athletes need to come down to the Phy Ed area to check the new meet lineup around noon today to see if you are now entered in the meet.

Additional scholarships available in the Career Center :

AP Government Test

Review sessions for the AP Government test will begin on Tuesday March 31st before school at 6:30 AM and right after school on Thursday April 2nd in Room 105.

Forensics

Congratulations to the 36 members of the Forensics team who competed in the District meet at Bay Port on Mar. 19th. 34 have qualified to advance to the State Festival in Madison.

Attention all boys trying out for the golf team.
There will be a short meeting right after school today in Room 265. Please bring all required forms with you if you have not turned them in yet.

Softball

JV and Varsity softball game are still on if for some reason they would be cancelled we will make an announcement. The Freshmen team should meet in the old gym at 3:15for practice until 5:15.

There is a district wide hygiene drive to help the homeless with hygiene products; there is a need for the families to have the following:
-Garbage bags
-Feminine needs
-Laundry Detergent
-Ethnic Hair Products and other Hair Products
-Cleaning Supplies
-Soap
-Deodorant
-Paper Products
-etc....

There is a drop box in the Career Center if you are interested in dropping off any Hygiene products. You will be able to drop off items today through March 31st.

Attention Language Arts Academic Team!

In a band? Trying to find a good reason to start one?

Green Bay West High School is hosting their second annual Battle of the Bands on Saturday, April 18th, and they are looking for bands interested in competing.

All bands must include at least one member who is also a current student at a Green Bay area high school. Bands must pay a $25 admission fee for a winner-takes-all prize. Bands will be judged by members of the local music community.

Show time is 7:00-11:00 pm in the West High Marchetti Center (main gym). After the Battle, headline band Winter Children will play, and competing bands are invited to enjoy the performance free of charge. Professional sound and lights will be provided by Koz of Profane (last year’s headliner).

All boys interested in trying out for the team should be dressed and ready to play by 3:30. Players should meet at the tennis courts.

Yearbook

The yearbook company must RECEIVE payment for 2009 yearbook orders by April 24th in order to guarantee a copy. Payments received after this date will result in placement on a waiting list which does not guarantee a yearbook. If you haven't received an invoice by now, you must contact the company at their toll-free number: 888-298-5063 or online: buyayearbook.com. This information is available on the counter in the Main Office. In the past, we have had several students believe that a yearbook was ordered and paid for when that was not the case. Please, check with the company so that you won't be disappointed this fall. The price of yearbooks ordered and paid for by the April 24 date is $45 plus tax or $49.59. Name tags are extra. Yearbooks ordered directly from Ms. Sutton after the final deadline will cost $60.

AP Government Test

Review sessions for the AP Government test will begin on Tuesday March 31st before school at 6:30 AM and right after school on Thursday April 2nd in Room 105.

Attention Juniors!

Although we are going on Spring break, we WILL be working on Prom decorations. If you can help, please plan to meet at the FRONT ENTRANCE on Tuesday, March 24 at 10 AM. We will work on decorations until about 2:00. The building will be locked, so if you cannot arrive at 10, please tell a friend or Mrs. Marshall when you will arrive.

Prom tickets will go on sale the week of March 30 through April 3 during lunch hours in the Commons. All non-Preble guest passes must be submitted before April 2 in order to get a ticket.

FCA
There will be no FCA this Sunday March 22nd for Spring Break. Our next meeting will be Sunday March 29th...7 pm. Also mark your calendar for our first annual spaghetti dinner slated for Sunday April 19th at 6 pm. Details and invitations to follow. Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a interdenominational Christian group open to all students, teachers and coaches who have a passion for sports and God. Come check us out! Track
Last night, our men’s varsity track and field team won the Preble indoor invitational city meet for the 10th consecutive year.

Our team earned 201 points, which was 73 points more than runner up Notre Dame. Our team earned eight first place finishes, however, the key to the win was the team depth with many other lower place finishes.

Our men’s junior varsity team also won the JV meet, earning 315 points. The JVs placed first in 13 events, and also earned 7, second place finishes.

Attention: all men and women track and field team members. Please be on time for practice today, after school, and bring any remaining fund raisers

Once again we have an outstanding opportunity for students who may want to learn more about their environment.

Procter and Gamble is offering 20 scholarships to Preble High School for 10 young women and 10 young men to attend the Trees For Tomorrow Program for 4 days in Eagle River, WI.. The girls will attend from April 22nd to April 25th, the boys from April 29th to May 2nd.

This is a great opportunity for you to participate in hands-on activities in a very unique outdoor environment. You will also be exposed to a large number of career opportunities in the environmental sciences.

If you are interested in applying, pick up an application from Mrs. Bornowski in room 217 or Mr. Grunwaldt in room 230. Applications are due by Thursday, April 9th.

Unity Expo
The Unity Expo will be held on Friday, April 24. Any student who wishes to participate in ANY WAY needs to fill in a participant form. This form is available in the Main Office.

Juniors
Today all JUNIORS need to receive Prom information and a court nomination form. Teachers—at this time, please count the number of JUNIORS only in your class and send a runner to the COMMONS for forms. All forms need to be returned to the office by the end of THIS HOUR, as they are considered ballots and should be treated as such. Thank you for your help.

Academic Decathlon announcement
Congratulations to the Academic Decathlon team for their positive and successful representation of Preble at the state competition in Madison earlier this week. Jason Jacobs won a bronze medal in the math category and Ariana Jones earned a perfect score in the Super Quiz oral relay round.

At the awards ceremony Jason Jacobs also accepted the honor of being the top scorer on Preble’s team and Danielle Westenberg was acknowledged for her perfect score in the interview category at the regional competition in January.

AP Government Test

Want to Quite Smoking?

Our school is pleased to provide a new in-school program for students who are interested in quitting smoking. This is a voluntary program for those of you who have decided that you’d like to try to quit smoking. For more information, please see Ms. Gingle in Student Services as soon as possible. Track

Please check the meet lineup changes down by the locker room after school before the meet. There are some changes from the announced lineup yesterday.

Also, if you are in a relay, you need to make sure all have the same uniform. If you don’t, you will need to trade.

All athletes need to hustle down after school to assist with the facility setup.

Yearbook
By now if you ordered a yearbook, you should have received your second invoice reminder. If you have not received an invoice from the yearbook company, please pick up the toll-free number or web address from the counter in the main office and contact them to place your order as soon as possible. We do not order “extras” and the few yearbooks that we do get as overruns cost $60 to purchase directly from the yearbook adviser. See Mrs. Sutton in Room 205 if you have questions.

Seniors may still turn in senior photos to be included in the yearbook but they will not be put in alphabetical order. Please see Mrs. Sutton as soon as possible if you plan on turning in a late yearbook photo.

2010 French Trip
Several students have picked up information packets about the French trip. Those interested in the 2010 French trip need to return the white contact information sheet to Mrs. Sutton in Room 205 this week if you have not already done so. If there are any students who are interested in the trip who did not attend the first meeting or who did not pick up materials, you may do so in Room 205.

Knitting Club
Due to low attendance, the Knitting Club will hold no further meetings this year. However, if you have a knitting project that you are working on and you need assistance, check with Mrs. Sutton in room 205 after school and she will be happy to help you. Depending on interest, we will restart the Knitting Club next fall.

Get ready to MIX IT UP in the cafeteria during your lunch period!

Attention seniors who plan to apply to NWTC for the 2009 Fall school year.

The scholarship application will be available online March 15 – May 1, 2009. This is a change from prior years. Once the scholarship application is completed, NWTC will match you up to scholarships within their system that you may be eligible for.

PAC

The Obama administration has given up the term enemy combatant and declared that the president may no longer order suspects considered to be dangerous captured and held without trial. AIG is giving bonuses to their executives who needed to take federal money to keep their company in business. Join the Political Awareness Club right after school today in Room 105 to discuss this and other issues of the day. New members are always welcomed.

Precollege Programs
There are many opportunities available during the summer months at campuses throughout the state for students to attend Precollege programs. This is an opportunity for students to improve their academic skills and learn about college. The Department of Instruction is offering scholarships for students who qualify for free and reduced lunch.
The following colleges have applications available for their summer programs:

-UW-Stevens Point precollege programs from July 1, 2009 – August 31, 2009.

-St. Norbert College pre college programs from June 22-July 17. This is an intensive English language program for minority students.

-UW-Oshkosh during June and July 2009.

-UW-Superior from June 15-26

-UW-Madison – programs are for all freshmen, sophomore and junior students who are first generation college students or students of limited/low income regardless of race. These programs take place July 5-24.

Pick up an applications in the Career Center.

Student Council

Student Council members should meet in the Commons today during Period 8. We will have sign-ups for helping with Prom and Unity Expo projects.

Senior Detention

There is a new Senior Detention list posted on the LMC window. All Seniors should check this list. If you have detentions you will not be able to participate in the graduation ceremony.

Track
Our men’s track and field team put forth a surprising last minute effort to win the 28 team, UW Oshkosh Titan Indoor Invitational, last night. Greg Parent had an outstanding meet, placing high in 4 events and winning the triple jump.

Today, Our women’s track and field team will host the Green Bay Preble Indoor Invitational at our fieldhouse with events beginning at 3:30. Come and support our girls track and field athletes.

Procter and Gamble is offering 20 scholarships to Preble High School for 10 young women and 10 young men to attend the Trees For Tomorrow Program for 4 days in Eagle River, WI.. The girls will attend from April 22nd to April 25th, the boys from April 29th to May 2nd.

This is a great opportunity for you to participate in hands-on activities in a very unique outdoor environment. You will also be exposed to a large number of career opportunities in the environmental sciences.

Scholarships

Seniors who have been accepted to NWTC for the Fall semester are eligible to apply for NWTC scholarships beginning today, March 16 – May 1. Students complete an online application and NWTC will match you up to scholarships within their system that you may be eligible for.

The Green Bay Substitute Teachers Association is offering a $500 scholarship to those who plan to major in education at a four-year college. Transcript required.


The NEWARTS Scholarships are now available for students in grades 9-12. They include visual, performing and literary arts scholarships. Further information available in the Career Center.

On Sat., St. Baldricks raised just over $40,500, shaved 135 heads, including teachers, Mr. Dunlap, Mr. Bonetti, Mrs. Sundstrom, and Mrs. Maria Smith, several Southwest teachers, and quite a number of students from Preble and Southwest. Roughly 800 people attended one of the most successful fund raisers for childhood cancer research. Notre Dame’s Sting Cancer presented a check for just over $3000 earned for shaving 6 heads at their school, and Bayview Middle School shaved 32 heads for the event. Thank you to all the Sting Cancer kids who helped set-up and manage the games for the kids. There were many positive comments made by people their who couldn’t get over the strength of such a great organization. Thanks for helping make a huge difference in our community. Preble Pride Prevails!!

Boys open gym on Thursday will be as follows:

Softball
All girls who where planning on attending the optional open gym for softball on Thursday the time has been changed from 4:00 to 6:00 in the old gym.

Just a friendly reminder Girls Softball practice starts Monday March 16th. This is for all grades. This will be the second season of having a freshman team. Make sure you stop in the office if you haven't already to get all the paper work turned in before the first practice. AP Exams
Sign-up for AP Exams will run Thursday, March 5 through Thursday, March 12. A $15.00 deposit per test is required when signing up--made out to Green Bay Area Public Schools. If you are taking more than one test you can write one check to cover the deposit for all the tests. Students can sign-up before and after school or during their lunch hour. On Thursday, March 12 sign-up will end at 3:30pm even though there is no school. Any questions see your AP teacher or Mrs. Koenig in the Main Office.

If you were unable to attend Mr. Nez’s short meeting this morning, please remember there is a second option for you immediately after school in room 246, directly across from the room we normally meet in. Culinary

Yesterday two teams from Preble High school, one from southwest and one from west high school participated in the 8th Annual ProStart Culinary & Management Competition in Milwaukee. Two teams were challenged to a 60 minute 3 course meal preparation. The other two teams were challenged to a restaurant management component which consisted of three contests. Competition was stiff between 28 teams from throughout the state. The Preble management team participated in all three components which included a case study presentation, a written exam and a jeopardy match. They completed all three and placed second overall! Please congratulate team members Iraidy Gonzalez, Dominic McIntyre, Caullen Omdahl and Jessica Robinson on bringing home the second place trophy!

AP Exams
Sign-up for AP Exams will run Thursday, March 5 through Thursday, March 12. A $15.00 deposit per test is required when signing up--made out to Green Bay Area Public Schools. If you are taking more than one test you can write one check to cover the deposit for all the tests. Students can sign-up before and after school or during their lunch hour. On Thursday, March 12 sign-up will end at 3:30pm even though there is no school. Any questions see your AP teacher or Mrs. Koenig in the Main Office.

Do Something

There will be no Do Something Meeting on the March 10th.

Spring Play

The REHEARSAL time on MONDAY for the CAST of Disco Fever is changed. Music will rehearse in the choir room from 3:15 – 5:30. Backstage will meet from 3:15 –4:15 to set the stage. All of Act 1 will rehearse from 4:15 – 6:15 in the auditorium.

If any cast or crew members did not get their schedules yesterday, please pick them up today from Mrs. Miller in 118 or Ms. Schewe in 247.

St. Baldrick’s
St. Baldrick’s is nearly upon us – Sat., March 14, to be exact – right here at Preble from 1-5. If you think cancer sucks, then join us in supporting childhood cancer research by helping us raise funds for this cause. You can go to
www.stbaldricks.org and sign up to have your head shaved in memory or in honor of someone with cancer. Or you can donate money to those brave souls among us who are going to go bald for the cause. Or you can come to the event between 1 and 5 on Sat. March 14, and have fun watching and supporting people having their heads shaved. There are signs around school with the website as well, or ask a Sting Cancer member or advisor about it. Sting Cancer members will be helping with games for the younger kids attending.

So – show your support for people with cancer and join in the fun at St. Baldricks!
Remember bald is beautiful!

Boys Tennis

There will be a sign-up meeting for any boys interested in trying out for the tennis team this spring. The meeting will be held next Wednesday after school in Room 245. Practice begins March 30.

Saturday's Basketball Game

The following information is in regards to body paint for the Saturday’s Basketball game. Body paint, other than on the face, is not allowed at WIAA State Tournaments.

We are selling tickets for this Saturday’s 1:30pm Boys Basketball game. Ticket sales are before and after school and during the lunch hours at the Security Desk by the front doors.

Adult/Student ticket price is $4.00 and children under the age of 6 is $1.00.

From Guidance:
The Preble Parent Network Scholarship is now available in the Career Center. Applicant may attend either a four-year or technical college. An essay is required explaining ones community service involvement and how it affected others as well as how it has influenced your academic career goals.

Forensics
The Sub-District Competition Tuesday evening was a great success. Congratulations to the 36 members of this year’s Forensics Team who qualified to advance to the District Competition at Bay Port. Thank you to Mrs. Spence and the Culinary Arts classes for the wonderful, gourmet pasta bar provided for the coaches and judges, and the dinners for the competitors.

Football
There will be an important meeting for all football players tomorrow, Thursday , after school, in the old gym.

Attention all students who know Mrs. Sundstrom:
Mrs. Sundstrom would like to meet with all Preble students that know her either through Sting Cancer or if you have been or currently are a student in one of her classes. She hopes that all Preble students that know her will stop by the LMC after school and listen to her very, very important message. This very important meeting with Mrs. Sundstrom will take place instead of our normal Thursday SC meeting. Our normal Thursday meeting is cancelled due to the Kevin Sharp concert and Men’s Health Forum at SNC Thursday night.

Please make sure all students who know Mrs. Sunstrom stop by the LMC after school today for this very important meeting.

Cerebral Palsy Telethon

Today the students and staff are being asked to please make a cash donation toward the Cerebral Palsy Telethon, which takes place this weekend on WBAY-TV. Your cash donation will be included with a donation from our Student Council, and will be presented at the Telethon between 11 PM and midnight this Saturday. Teachers—please place your collection in any type of envelope and drop it off in the Main Office by 3 PM today. Thank you all for your generosity and kindness.

Culinary Management Teams

Today the Culinary Management Teams from Preble and Southwest will be facing off in the auditorium in preparation for their State competition in March. During all three lunch periods, these two teams will be answering a variety of questions in a jeopardy-style format. Come to the auditorium and see what you know while helping support our Culinary Management Teams.

Football

If you are a member of the cast or crews of Disco Fever and you or your parents were not able to attend the parent meeting last night, please pick up your envelope with contracts and forms from Ms. Schewe today in Rm. 247.

ProStart Culinary Teams

Today the ProStart Culinary Teams from Preble and West will be facing off in the commons in preparation for their State competition in March. During all three lunch periods, witness these two teams preparing a three-course gourmet meal in less than sixty minutes. Come check out the skills and special techniques of our Culinary teams while helping support our Culinary Management Teams.

Forensics

Good luck to the 36 members of the Forensics team who will be competing in the SubDistrict meet tonight here at Preble. We hope all of you will qualify for the District competition in two weeks.

All team members including the four alternates will meet in Rm. 118 at 3:00. For those who have not as yet picked up schedules, they will be available in Rm. 118.

Wrestling

This past weekend Steve VandenAvond at 171 lbs and Matt Pennings at 152 lbs, participated in the WIAA State Wrestling Tournament. While Steve came away not placing he had a great season, finishing up his senior year at 42-4. Matt Pennings wrestled his way to the semi-finals and then lost in double-overtime to the eventual state champion from Kaukauna. Matt got on the medal stand as he wrestled his way back to 4th place. Great job guys!

Congratulations also go out to Steve and Matt for earning first team all-conference honors in the Fox River Classic Conference. Earning second team all-conference were Pedro Hernandez and Mark VandenAvond. Earning honorable mention were Marshall Pennings, Luis Perez, and Nathan Swiecichowski.

Wrestlers! Please bring in your uniforms this week. Coach McGrath will be up in the wrestling room after school on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Don't wait until the banquet to turn it in! Please clean out your lockers downstairs so the next sport can use them. They will be cleaned out for you on Wednesday if you haven't done so yet.

Wisconsin Public Service Volunteer Awards- Scholarship Opportunity
The Wisconsin Public Service Volunteer Awards is a community-wide volunteer recognition program that seeks to honor local volunteers of all ages. Special emphasis is given to honoring area youth through the Schreiber Foods Youth Award. The winner in this category will receive a $500 personal scholarship, and the runner-up will receive a $100 scholarship. Students can complete the nomination form as though it was a scholarship application, or they can be nominated by an educator or another person that is familiar with their community service work.
