Academic Decathlon
Congratulations to the Academic Decathlon team for finishing 3rd at the Regional competition last Friday. Individual ribbons were won by Ariana Theys, Ellen Mattila, Kimy Rhyme, Danielle Westenberg, Ryan Jessick, Jason Jacobs, and Mike Huemphner.
As a result of the team’s overall score, they also earned a bid to the State competition in March.
Additional scholarships available in the Career Center are:
-The National Organization of Professional Hispanic National Resource Scholarship – Applicant must be Hispanic and planning to pursue a degree in natural resources or a related field. Proof of citizenship, transcript, essay and recommendation letters required.
-Cellcom Scholarship – Applicant may attend a two/four year college or a technical college. Based on academic record, leadership, community activities, honors, and work experience. Financial need is NOT considered.
-The Fox Cities Chapter of Credit Unions 2009 Scholarship contest - $1,000 scholarship based on volunteerism/community involvement. Typed essay must be in response to the following question: “If credit unions did not exist, it would be necessary to create them because… must also include a paragraph on your most rewarding volunteering experience. Applicant must also be an active member of one of the credit unions listed on the application.
-2009 Fox communities Credit Union Scholarship - $500 scholarship awarded to a graduating Preble student with a GPA of 2.75/better. Applicant must be an active member of the Fox Community Credit Union. Based on community service. Essay and transcript required.
-UW-Fox Valley foundation Scholarships – Scholarships range from full-tuition for two years to partial tuition for one year. Applications are evaluated on academic performance, essay, and extracurricular activities/community involvement.
Attention all Physical Education students and athletes
The Physical education locker rooms will be cleaned out beginning tomorrow, to make room for semester 2 students.
If you are taking a semester 2 Physical Education course, please take your clothing home and bring it back on Monday.
If you are an athlete using the Physical Education locker room, please put your equipment in the team locker room.
All remaining equipment in the Physical Education locker room will be taken to Goodwill.
MAC Scholars
MAC Scholars will meet TODAY after school from 3:00 to 4:00 pm in the back of the LMC by The Career Center
Sting Cancer Book Fair
Please come out to Barnes and Noble this Saturday and support the Sting Cancer Book Fair and teachers receive a Partners in Education discount as well. Sting Cancer will have student representation on hand at Barnes and Noble all day and night, from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm. An added bonus is if you spend $75.00 or more, you get a free Sting Cancer shirt.
All you have to do is mention Sting Cancer at the register when making your purchase and Preble’s cancer awareness group will benefit. Also, teachers can save 25% on books and more discounts on other items as Saturday is also a Partners in Education Day at Barnes and Noble.

Are you getting nervous about your final exams coming up this week? Are you not sure how to prepare, or do you need some help studying? Well, you’re in luck! Link Crew is sponsoring Cocoa and Cram study tables on January 12th and January 13th from 3-4:30 in the commons. Today’s subjects will be, language arts, family and consumer education, phy. ed, science, agriscience, and tech ed. So, come enjoy a nice warm cup of hot cocoa and a snack while you study with your friends! Link Crew leaders will even be available to help you prepare! You do not want to miss this!!
FCCLA
Just a reminder that we will have an FCCLA meeting after school today in room 137. This meeting is required for all STAR event competitors. Please see Ms. Blaney with any questions. New members are always welcome.
Open Gym
Girls Softball and Girls Soccer open gym is cancelled Monday Jan 19th. Everyone should go watch the basketball games at Preble.

Attention Language Arts Academic Team –
We will have a short meeting after school today to discuss our reading schedule for Pride and Prejudice and to learn a little about Jane Austen. The meeting will end about 4 PM.
LMC
The LMC will be limited periods 5 and 7 today.
Also, the LMC will be closed Wednesday thru Friday due to semester exams.
Attention seniors who plan to apply to NWTC for the 2009 Fall school year.
The scholarship application will be available online from March 15 – May 1, 2009. This is a change from prior years. Once the scholarship application is completed, NWTC will match you up to scholarships within their system that you may be eligible for.
PAC
Because of the semester exam schedule, there will be no Political Awareness Club meeting this week.
Service Learning
A service-learning update has been posted outside of the Student Service office. Students should check it for discrepancies. Seniors don’t wait until the last minute to complete your service hours. Stop in the Career Center to pick up a copy of the Volunteer Times for service ideas.
Semester Dance
The Preble Dance Team will host a semester dance on January 23 from 8:00-11:00. Non Preble Dance forms are available in the main office starting today and are due January 22nd.
2nd Interdistrict Dodgeball Tournament
West Parent Network will again host the 2nd Interdistrict Dodgeball Tournament on Friday, January 30th from 4:30-10:30 p.m.
There can be 6 people on a team. The sign up cost is $30.00 a team or $5.00 a person.
Sign up in the main office starting today until Jan. 19th.
