Hello Community Connection Team
My name is Nick Nesvacil and I’m a teacher at Preble High School. I am also an advisor of our Sting Cancer support group. Sting Cancer has been in existence at Preble for the last four years and is the only school in the nation with a cancer awareness team. Our team participates in various community activities and fundraisers to raise awareness and financial support for families who have been impacted by cancer.

Recently, I met with Jim Schmitt, Green Bay Mayor, to discuss the upcoming Livestrong -Wear Yellow Day which is May 13th. Currently, there is a nation-wide competition for schools to Livestrong and get out into their communities and do special things that display the Livestrong idea. The winner of this competition will receive a visit from Lance Armstrong himself. So, our thought is that if Lance Armstrong was going to pay a visit to the school that wins the contest and displays Living Strong the most, we would have to go above and beyond what we are already doing in order to try and get him here. Mayor Schmitt was very proud to hear all that Sting Cancer and Preble High School has done. He was excited to hear that we are the only school in the nation with a cancer awareness team. He was proud to hear about all the support that we have received from the great faculty of Preble High School.

The mayor was so excited that he said on behalf of Sting Cancer and The Breast Cancer Family Foundation, he would proclaim a “Wear Yellow Livestrong Day” in all of Green Bay on May 13th. He also wants to set up a press conference on May 12th at Lambeau Field with some of our Sting Cancer members to make the proclamation. He also has connected me with a great company that is going to get the mayor’s proclamation on three or four billboards in Green Bay.

To commemorate May 13th, we have the following events planned:
· Cancer Survivor’s Vigil planned for the night of May 13th at Preble at 7:00. This will be open to the public.
· Teachers and community members are also working on a letters or videos on how they Livestrong.

What you can do to help:
· We are looking for financial support to commemorate and celebrate Livestrong day on May 13th. . Funds would be used to offset the costs of yellow cancer awareness T-shirts that we would like to have made in order to bring more awareness to this very important cause.
· If we can get area businesses and the city of Green Bay to support us by doing special activities or by donating money--we can get as many students and adults as possible in Green Bay wearing yellow Sting Cancer-Livestrong shirts on May 13th!!
· Share this message with your organization and promote Livestrong Day on May 13th within your organization to create cancer awareness.

Sting Cancer:
We would like everyone to know how much there support for SC has meant to our group this year. We would like to personally extend an invitation to everyone in this building for our April 19th dinner gala. While an email and an announcement may seem a bit informal, we realize this is the best way to get out pertinent info to as many people as we can.

The dinner gala is Saturday, April 19th here at Preble High School. It is a combination of Sting Cancer students celebrating their achievements and Preble Culinary Arts showing off what they do best. The Culinary Arts group makes this an event one that cannot be missed. Last year a hotel-restaurant management graduate from UW-Stout remarked that in her years at Stout as an undergraduate, they had never achieved anything that matched the magnitude of how civilized, classy and simply unbelievable the Sting Cancer dinner was. She said that our Culinary Arts team was doing things beyond what most colleges do.

So if you have a chance to come on Saturday, April 19th and see Culinary Arts and Sting Cancer celebrate their accomplishments. The 3-course dinner will be highlighted by two very special cancer survivors Jerry Parins, Senior Security Advisor of the Green Bay Packers, and Preble’s very own special math teacher, Deanna Sundstrom.

The dinner will also include a small silent auction and a great chance to celebrate a very special night. Dinner costs $20 per plate, but please let Mr. Nez know if there are people who would like to go, but may not be able to handle the $20 cost of the dinner. Sting Cancer does have the opportunity to sponsor a limited amount of dinners.

Students and faculty, if you would like to reserve your spots for this great event, please contact Nick Nesvacil or Deanna Sundstrom as soon as possible
