Jack Drankoff Preble Community 5k
To most schools, homecoming mean they get to look forward to some fun activities for a week, try to win a football game and have a dance on Saturday night. Well here a Preble we expect so much more from a homecoming week. We know we are going to destroy West in the football game. We also know that we will have the best dance around. Did you also know that we have a unique homecoming tradition here a Preble. We kick this great week off on the Saturday before with the Jack Drankoff Preble Community 5k. This is a great event to show the Green Bay area what school has the best spirit. Get together with your friends and come out to run, jog, walk, skip, or crawl just come out and be part of the fun. The cost is $15 and you will get a great t-shirt, and a chance to one of the trophies. This event is on this Saturday at 9 AM. Sign up now! Entry forms are in the main office or online on the Preble website.

Cross Country Announcement
On Saturday, the boys and girls Cross Country traveled to Shawano High School to participate in the annual Shawano Invitational.

The varsity boy’s varsity placed 2nd out of 30 teams. Leading the way for the Hornets were:
Quinn Englebert- 6th place, Ian Mosbrucker- 14th and Jim Zahn- 15th.
The girl’s varsity team took home the overall team title.

Leading the way for the Lady Hornets were: Katelyn Smith- 7th, Kaitlyn Soukup- 11th and Lauren Orfield- 32nd.

The JV boys placed 9 in the top 10 of the race on their way to another dominating performance. Pacing the squad were: J
esse Pfaff- 1st, Michael Molzahn- 2nd and Michael Servais- 4th.

The JV girls took home 7 of the top 10 places on their way to a convincing victory. Top finishers for the lady hornets were:
Kim Drewiske- 2nd, Kali Cibula- 3rd and Nicole Kozlovsky- 4th.
Congratulations all Cross Country runners on your efforts at this meet! The Hornet Harriers will be in action this Thursday at the Green Bay City meet. The races will be held at Colburn Park and start at 4:30. All are welcome to come out and cheer our teams on to another fantastic performance!

Football
Our Preble Football Team would like to thank all of the staff and students for all of their fan support. You have proven again why Preble is such an outstanding school.

Attention all varsity football players.
You are to report to the Tech Ed room immediately after school before you change to watch film before practice.

Yearbook
Anyone interested in joining the yearbook staff this year, please come to a meeting after school today in room 205. If you cannot attend today’s meeting, listen to announcements for future meetings and join us then. You can also stop by room 205 and let Mrs. Sutton know of your interest. Tomorrow’s meeting after school has been cancelled.

The Knitting Club
The Knitting Club will meet Wednesday after school in Room 205. Anyone interested in knitting or in learning how to knit is welcome to join us. Last year several of us made caps and mittens for homeless Green Bay students. But you are welcome to come learn just for yourself.

Vox Box,
Vox Box, a student writing group, will meet Thursday after school in Room 205. All students who are interested in writing fiction or poetry are invited to join us.

Art Club
This Thursday will be the first Art Club meeting of the year. We will be meeting in Ms. Gerondale’s room-180 at 3:15. We will be planning projects, and choosing fundraisers for the year. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun.

Boy's Volleyball
The boy’s volleyball team placed second on Saturday at the Neenah Quad. The boys next match is at Fond du Lac Tuesday.


Attention anyone interested in ordering a class ring!
This Wednesday a representative from Brickhouse School Services will be here for a class ring shopping day.

Class rings will be on display and order information will be handed out during the lunch periods.
Please be sure to stop and take a look!

The Buzz
There will be an important staff meeting for the Buzz in room 132 after school Monday, Sept 15. All members should attend.

Fishing Club:
Those students who expressed interest in helping plan Preble’s first ever fishing club should come to room 228 on Tuesday at 3:00 pm. We will start putting together ideas for club activities for this school year as well as summer. See Mr. Valley if you have any questions.

Harvard University
Harvard University announced that from now on undergraduate students from low-income families will pay no tuition. To qualify applicant must be an honor student. Family income must be less than $60,000 a year. To learn more stop in the Career Center.

Homecoming
Homecoming is just around the corner and it just wouldn't be the same without a 2008 Homecoming T-shirt. Order forms are available from all 31 Cheerleaders as well as in the Main Office. Short sleeved t-shirts are $10 and long sleeved t-shirts are $12. Add $1 for size XL and 2XL. Completed forms and money should be dropped in the box in the main office. Shirts will be available for pick up during the lunch hours in the Commons the week of Homecoming. The deadline for orders is Friday, September 19th.

Attention Math Students
Did you know that half of 18 is 10?
Or, that you can take 1 from 29 and have 30 left?
Then Math Team is for you!

There will be an informational meeting today after school in Room 237 at 3:10 pm. If you are unable to attend, stop by sometime this week and see Mr. Schwedrsky in Room 237

Attention all cast and crew for “All Shook Up”:
Cast and crew members should return all of their paperwork to room 247 as soon as possible. If you missed the parent meeting last Thursday, pick up your packet in room 247.
The Political Awareness club will be holding its first meeting of the new school year. Persons of all political persuasions are encouraged to join our weekly discussion of current events and the 2008 Presidential Campaign. Interested students should report to Mrs. Rapaich’s Room 105, immediately after school on Wednesday, September 17th.

Preble Walking Club Announcement
Start the school year off on the right foot; join Preble Walking Club. Our first meeting will be tonight after school from 3:10-3:45. We will meet by career service entrance of the LMC for sign-up and instructions. Plan to walk outside weather permitting. All students and staff are welcome to join us. Any questions, see Mrs. Glendenning in room 238.

Attention all students
Today is day 10 of school.
The student services dept. will not be accepting any more schedule changes. If you have a “green student initiated course change sheet”, turn it in immediately. We need students to get settled into their classes to be successful for the year. Individual situations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Girls Tennis Team
The Girls Tennis meet against Manitowoc will not be played today. Girls are to report for practice at the normal time.

Attention 9th and 10th graders:
The Upward Bound program is a pre-college program at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. This academic program is designed to prepare high school students to enter a college or university and successfully complete studies there. The program is a free year-round program that offers school year tutoring and a six-week summer program on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s campus. If interested, see your counselor.
