Wrestling
With an excellent team effort, the varsity wrestling team captured the 3rd place trophy at the Door County Classic on Saturday:

Tyler Umentum placed 6th
Pedro Lopez and Marshall Pennings each placed 5th
Steve VandenAvond and Nick Sobrilsky each placed 4th

Individual Championships were earned by:
Malachi Root, Luis Perez, Nathan Swiecichowski, and Matt Pennings.

Malachi Root was also voted the MVP of the tournament.

Congratulations to the following JV wrestlers who placed in the top 2 of the Bayport JV Tournament on Saturday:

Josh Romero, Teng Xiong, and Andy Delaurelle each placed 2nd.
Aaron Werchek, Orrie VandenLangenberg, and Spencer Tielens each placed 1st.


This is a reminder for all Asian Club students that there is a meeting today after school in room 123. Please attend because we will be discussing important topics.

Attention all DECA STATE Competitors
There will be a DECA meeting in room 136 after school on Tuesday.

Attention All Music Student:
Edison Middle School is looking for student volunteers for the Middle School Solo and Ensemble on February 23. If you are interested please see your music teacher for a sign up sheet.

Attention Seniors
We have a new shipment of SMALL senior shirts in the school store. Stop by and pick them up as soon as you can. Cost for Senior Shirts are $12.00

Attention students:
Do you want to learn more about black history? Well now is your chance. February is black history month and on Saturday, February 9 at 2:00 pm., Professor Eric Arnesen, a leading scholar of the African-American experience from the University of Illinois at Chicago, will present Black Railroaders and the Making of a Civil Rights Movement at the National Railroad Museum. If you are interested come to the National Railroad Museum on Saturday, February 9 at 2:00 pm to learn more about black history.

The Buzz
There is a Buzz meeting after school today in room 132 for all writers to work on their articles.

Chess Club
The Hornet Chess Club meets today after school in room 117. As always, new players of any ability level are welcome.

Costa Rica Trip
We will be meeting on Wednesday January 30 at 3:05 in room 221. Please see Miss Fisher or Miss Nelson ASAP if you will be unable to attend.

Dance Team
Congratulations to the Dance Team who competed at Eastern Regionals on Saturday!!!

We are happy to report that in tough Division 1 competition, your dance team placed 4th with their Pom Routine and 2nd with their Kick Routine! They will be traveling to LaCrosse for State Competition next Saturday.

We are researching the possibility of a fan bus for their supporters!! If you would be interested, please let one of the girls know.

Attention Language Arts Academic Team

This is a reminder that we will be finishing our discussion of The Red Badge of Courage after school tomorrow. Remember to bring your books and notes to the meeting.

NAEP Testing
This announcement is for Seniors.

Preble High School has been chosen to participate in the norming of the next NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) test. We are fortunate to be one of only ten high schools in Wisconsin who have been asked to participate.

Approximately 20% of our Seniors have been randomly selected to be part of this. There will be a meeting of those selected tomorrow, Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at 9:50 am in the auditorium. You will be dismissed to the auditorium via intercom. Participants’ names will be posted in your classrooms today.

Thanks you for assisting with this worthwhile endeavor.

Student Council
Thank you to the 100 students and staff who signed up as blood donors last Friday. Although our goal was not met, we did donate 77 pints of blood to the American Red Cross, who is is great need of blood this winter. People who wished to donate on Friday but could not are encouraged to donate at the Red Cross Center. Preble will host one more bloodmobile in April, and we hope you consider donating then.

NHS
There will be a NHS officers meeting in room 228 tomorrow morning at 7am.

Blood Donors

Softball open gym is tonight and also on Thursday from 7:30-9:00. Hope to see you there!

Sting Cancer
Sting Cancer had a very successful day at Barnes and Noble on Saturday and we owe such a huge thank you to the great Preble community. Our student officers estimate they saw at least 50 faculty members and well over 100 people from Preble in total on Saturday. It was once again great to see so many teachers and students there to support our fundraising efforts. The winners of the student raffle held at Barnes and Noble are the following students:

Tyler Wadzinski, Holly Baierl, Kaeleigh Jackson, and Tanner Diring.

Boys Volleyball
There will be an open gym for any boy’s interested in playing volleyball on Tuesday January 29th from 7:30pm – 9:30pm.

Yearbook
Seniors, please be sure to check the list of photos received for the yearbook and see Mrs. Sutton in room 205 if there is an error. The list is posted on the student drive as well as outside room 205 and the auditorium.

This week, the yearbook will not be meeting after school. Check with Mrs. Sutton, though, if you want to work during a study hall or over a lunch hour.

Vox Box
This week, the Vox Box meeting is cancelled for Tuesday but will be rescheduled for Wednesday after school in room 205.

The knitting group
which so far has made over 20 items for homeless students, will meet on Wednesday and Friday this week. The regular Tuesday meeting has been cancelled. Our group welcomes new members.
